Chapter 6 Family

  • “Simmi, you can change your college for an internship, I can confirm your enrollment in any college you want, but can’t let you have anything to do with that Samrat Malhotra.”
  • As soon as Rahul heard that Simmi ended up in a problem with Samrat Malhotra, temper rose inside him and he ordered Simmi to change the hospital.
  • “But RO, Goenka is the top most hospital in the country and I want to complete my internship from this hospital only.” Simmi requested beseechingly.
  • “No, I can’t take risk, it’s……”
  • Their mother, Disha Oberoi, who came to Simmi’s aid cut Rahul’s words off.
  • “Rahul, she is grown up to take her decision and none of us will meddle in it, alright?” Disha said, a bit sternly.
  • “But mom…..” Rahul wanted to point out his concern for Simmi but thought something and pursed his lips. “Alright mom, as per Simmi’s wish.”
  • Simmi got happy after getting approval from her brother; she excitedly hugged her mom and brother and ran upstairs towards her room. Next day, Simmi got up late for the first day of her internship and as usual late on the breakfast table, which was against Rahul’s rules for the family.
  • ‘Everybody should have to be on breakfast table by 8:00 am.’
  • “Good morning mom, morning RO, morning Heena.” Simmi wished everybody with sheepish smile.
  • “Good morning.” Rahul wished back with a stern face. “Simmi, you are the only one in the entire world who everyday breaks my rules and escapes from the punishment.”
  • Simmi crouched and apologized earnestly. “I am very sorry RO, Mom, I apologized to you too, Heena, and little Alia too. I have disappointed you all and I promise I will never repeat it in the future.”
  • Everybody was surprised by Simmi, who not only admits her mistakes, but behaves obediently, what’s more, she is apologizing and promises to turn down old stubborn habits.
  • ‘Impossible’
  • “Shut up Simmi, nobody is going to buy your fake promises and don’t try to butter us up for skipping breakfast.” Heena Oberoi caught her intentions in a minute and scolded her.
  • She got that Simmi was getting late for the hospital and wanted to skip her breakfast. That’s why she was behaving well.
  • Before Simmi could answer, she heard the most unwanted sound in the morning.
  • “Now the second devil is here.” Rahul mumbles while sipping his coffee. It was Pari’s car’s horn who was there to pick Simmi for the hospital. Simmi looked at Rahul and pleaded through eyes, which he ignored royally, and ordered a servant to escort Pari inside.
  • “RO, please spare Pari, she is scared of you and please let us go.” Simmi again requested with all her innocence.
  • Rahul ignored her plead and gave her a mocking smirk. “Pari is a devil, and the devil is not scared of anybody.”
  • Simmi was offended by Rahul’s tough attitude and defended Pari. “Yes she does, you always glare at her with your big cold eyes and sulky face, giving her shivers.”
  • “Good for her......” Rahul shrugged her shoulder and sipped his coffee.
  • The entire Oberoi family laughed out loud.
  • At the same time, Pari entered in the dining room with slow steps. She looked at Simmi enjoying breakfast with her family merrily laughing and chit chatting and this triggered her mood.
  • Pari beckoned Simmi to let’s go from here fast. She wanted to get out of here before Rahul will point any of her mistakes and give her long lectures again.
  • “Where are your manners, Pari Singh? How can you not greet the elders when you came all the way to our house?”
  • All shook their head thinking Rahul will not change ever.
  • Only Rahul’s sharp voice is enough to send shivers down Pari’s spine.
  • “Yes, yes Mr. Oberoi, Hello, hello aunt Disha, hello Heena, and Hello baby Alia.” Pari said in one go while stammering.
  • She walked fast towards Simmi, crouched down and kissed hard baby Alia’s both cheeks but she made a cried face and rubbed her both cheeks in irritation.
  • Pari pinched Simmi’s arm to steer her to get up fast and let’s go. Rahul observed Simmi and Pari through corner the of his eyes and caught the secret conversation between them.
  • “Pari, can’t you see Simmi is having her breakfast, she will take her time and what kind of manners is this? Sit down and have some pancakes. Butler, bring some extra set of plates.” Rahul ordered the servant.
  • He couldn’t control the rudeness in his voice, which comes from a protective brother inside him as soon as he sees a spoiled friend of his sister.
  • Everybody shook their head seeing Rahul’s rough attitude with Pari, but Simmi pleaded him through eyes to be softer.
  • At first he ignored her, then released a long sigh and controlled himself.
  • Pari wanted to refuse to have anything, but didn’t want to argue with Rahul Oberoi anymore, that’s why she sat beside Simmi with a grumpy look on her face.
  • Simmi saw Pari’s red angry face and immediately planned to escape from this boring breakfast ritual.
  • She stuffed her mouth with many bites of pancakes, took two sips of milk and dropped the spoon towards Heena’s side on purpose.
  • When Heena crouched under the dining table to pick up the spoon, taking it as an opportunity, Simmi planned to empty her cup of milk into little Alia’s cup of milk but was caught by Heena at the Nick of time.
  • Heena held her hand and came out from under the dining table with a spoon in her hand.
  • “Simmi, don’t try your silly pranks on me early morning itself.” Heena said with a smirk and Simmi smiled sheepishly, her plan has been failed.
  • Disha and Rahul looked at them in surprise and Pari beat her forehead inwardly.
  • ‘Rather than get out of it, Simmi is creating more fuss.’ Pari thought with grievance.
  • “HO, I apologize, but what to do, I am getting late, can I skip my breakfast, please?” Simmi pleaded with an utmost innocent face and blinked her eyes a few times.
  • Oberoi family is habitual of every antics of Simmi, none of them buyed it.
  • “No ways. You are not allowed to ignore your health.” Heena refused her pleadings ruthlessly.
  • Simmi and Pari once again resume eating silently, but Pari had something else in her mind. She hit Simmi’s foot under the table and beckoned her thorough eyes towards Rahul.
  • Simmi realized that she forgot an important thing and bite her tongue. She needs permission from her mother and elder brother for something very important and for that, she must behave obediently first.
  • Simmi chewed her food calmly and took a few sips of milk like a good girl and looked at her sister-in-law, Heena.
  • “HO, now can you see I am having my milk?” Simmi flaunts her milk cup with pride.
  • “Hmm, that’s great.” Heena just bobbled her head and resume feeding her 1-year-old daughter.
  • Simmi bottoms up her cup of milk and said loudly, with pride, “Yes, I finished it.” Then she looked at Heena and steer something.
  • Heena didn’t get her signal and raised her eyebrows in a questionable gaze. Simmi beckoned towards Rahul through eyes and made a beseeching expression, liked pleading for her help.
  • Rahul, who always pays close attention to his sister, read her every expression, he raised his eyebrows and asked, “Simmi, do you want to ask something from me?”
  • Simmi was seeking the opportunity, she immediately said, “Yes, RO, I want to know your decision about my stay in the dormitory, I want to live in the college’s dorm during my internship, please let me move out.”
  • Simmi is an apple of an eye for the family. Even though she lost her father when she was young, still her mother and brother brought her up with utmost love and care. They fulfilled her every wish, she always got what she wanted, but she doesn’t know why her brother is not letting her live in a dorm.
  • She requested him so many times but he refused every time, at last he said he will rethink about it coz of her constant pleadings.
  • “No, Simmi, I already denied this and nothing can change my decision, is that clear?”
  • Even though Simmi felt bad, but she was sure that her brother can’t be wrong when it’s comes to her. She just wants to know the reason behind his denial.
  • “Why RO, what is the problem if I will live in a dorm, I can pay attention to my studies in a better way.”
  • “Simmi, you are a bright student, I know you can study more than well anywhere and the reason for my denial is that you are an irresponsible girl, least bothered about yourself and careless about your meals and diet.”
  • You are just a pro in studies and medical, otherwise zero in everything, you can’t do anything on your own. The most important reason is me, mom, Heena and even little Alia can’t live without you, so you are not allowed to live in the dorm.”
  • Rahul explained in detail, and at last tossed some emotional dialogue which worked.
  • “Yes, dear, Rahul is right, we can’t live without seeing you daily.” Disha added more emotional words and Simmi turned completely emotional.
  • “Oh, I am so sorry, mom and RO, if I hurt you unintentionally. I will never go far from you people.” Simmi stood up hugged her mother being emotional.
  • Pari also stood up in irritation; simmi’s emotional side has failed her entire plan. She said with sulky mood, “Simmi, shall we leave now? Otherwise, we will be late on our first day itself.”
  • Simmi bid adieu to her family and walked out of the mansion with Pari. Disha’s gaze followed Simmi from behind until they disappeared and her eyes turned glassy.
  • “Rahul, I really pity this child of god, she bore too much in her life. I wish her parents could be here with her and they would be very happy to see her join Goenka Medical College and Hospital as per their wish.”
