Chapter 10 The First Day

• “Thank you, Dr. SM.” Simmi said boldly.
• After listening to the appointed duties, Simmi crouched a little as she was in gratitude and took the file to the emergency ward.
• Alas, Samrat didn’t get to see any fear or tension on Simmi’s face for the tough duty. It disappointed him in his heart, but didn’t let it reflect on his face. And walked out of the classroom.
• “Everybody, move to your departments.” Dr. Arjun ordered. He then noticed the tension on Riya’s face and disappointed in his sister. According to him, she is a good for nothing.
• “Also, if you have any problems with your duties or departments.......” Arjun said these words overbearingly while looking at Riya deeply.
• A pang of happiness arrived at Riya’s face by Arjun’s words, which vanished like a thin air after listening to him further.
• “Then, please don’t come to me, otherwise it may only increase.”
• All started moving towards their respective departments when Simmi heard some gossip about her and Dr. Samrat.
• “OMG, such a tough job on the first day itself, it’s like a punishment. Why did Dr. Samrat punish an intern on the first day?”
• “Emergency ward, to an intern on her first day. I just can’t understand the reason behind Dr. Samrat’s decision.”
• “Why did Dr. Samrat meddle in Dr. Arjun’s work?”
• “Even I don’t get why Dr. SM is taking an interest in this new intern that, for the first time he interfered in Dr. Arjun’s decision?”
• “Huh, is she the only intelligent doctor in this batch? Why did Dr. SM give her such a tremendous responsibility?”
• Some hospital staff and a few interns were whispering such types of gossip and giving weird looks to Simmi while passing by her.
• Simmi released a sigh and looked at her friend. She was least bothered by all these gossips her concentration was on Riya’s grumpy face.
• “Hey, RG What has happened, why the sudden long face?”
• “My department is my problem. Dr. Arjun appointed me in this department on purpose.” Rida Said and gulped down the lump of saliva. She was on the verge of shedding tears.
• Simmi and Pari gave weird look to each other.
• “Don’t be silly Riya, General ward is a very common department, 4 interns got this duty, and even PS has the same as yours.” Simmi said and hit Pari’s shoulder playfully.
• Pari rubbed her shoulder with a pout and said to Simmi, “True, but I guess Dr. SM has appointed the emergency ward to you on purpose.”
• Even though Simmi knows that Pari’s doubt is correct, her duty does not bother her. Being skillful, hardworking and a self-believer, she knows how to deal with such kinds of challenges.
• “Doesn’t matter, I will handle it.”
• Simmi has a confident smile, whereas Riya has a sad look.
• “But I can’t deal with this. That Mansi and Manav are in the same department with me, they both never leave a chance to bully me.” Rida Said helplessly.
• “I don’t get it. Why do you take their nonsense, refute them in the way they treat you, you are not a kid?” Pari said annoyingly.
• “PS is right, RG, you should take a stand for yourself. Be strong, don’t let anybody bully you.” Simmi tried to motivate Riya, but discomfort was written all over her face.
• Riya didn’t answer them, just wiped the corner of her eyes.
• “Miss Privilege user is missing dad.” Mansi and Manav came to them and teased Riya again.
• Simmi looked at her poor face and sighed.
• “PS, Kiwotsukete darenimo jama sa senaide.” (“Take care and don’t let anybody bully her.”) Simmi said to Pari in Japanese.
• “Kanojo no nani ga warui no?” (“Alright, but what is wrong with her?”) Pari also answered in Hindi.
• “Kanojo wa issho okubyodatta.” (She has been timid all her life.")
• Simmi and Pari learnt different foreign languages and use it as a code language to hide their conversation from others.
• Of course, as always, today also nobody understood what they were talking about.
• “Hey, what the hell are you both talking about?” Mansi asked in confusion.
• “It’s a conversation of mature level, the idiot bullies like you two will need hard work to learn, unfortunately you are busy with teasing and irritating others.” Simmi said ironically and walked towards her department.
• Everybody got busy with their own work, but Simmi was jam-packed in the emergency ward. She just entered the emergency ward and an accident case had arrived behind her.
• In Samrat’s cabin, Dr. Kiran was called by Dr. Isha to answer about her careless behavior in the hospital the other day with a child patient.
• “Dr. Kiran, this kind of reckless attitude is intolerable in the hospital. You have made a grave mistake today.” Dr. Isha was scolding Kiran, but she was least bothered.
• “Dr. Isha, please, I have been in this hospital for so long, fulfilling my responsibilities sincerely, you can’t judge it by one incident, and accidents can happen anywhere.” Dr. Kiran argued as a snob.
• “Do you even know the significance of this matter? How could you let this happen?” Dr. Isha chided.
• “There were so many kids in the park, I was looking after a little girl who fell down while running and in the meantime, this accident happened. What was my fault in........”
• “Enough Dr. Kiran......”
• Kiran was argumentative and defensive when the matter was gravely serious. Samrat couldn’t take it anymore, he slammed the table and cut her off.
• “When you brought kids in the park, you were in charge of their security, no matter how many they were and whatever happened with that little kid, you are accountable.”
• Kiran was trying to come clean in front of Samrat, but he also blamed her. She immediately changed her attitude.
• “I am really sorry Dr. Samrat, I realize my mistake and I will rectify it.” Kiran said apologetically.
• “Have you completely lost it? The accident happened the day before and has already been rectified by a mere intern, she has done a great job in emergency.” Samrat said in a flow, didn’t realize that he was indirectly praising Simmi.
• “Yes, Dr. Simmi’s appearance in the park and her presence of mind in the situation was a blessing in disguise, otherwise it would be difficult to save the child.”
• Isha also praised Simmi and Samrat realized unknowingly he also put good words for that prankster girl.
• “Whatever, she was just doing her duty as a doctor, so no need to elaborate.”
• Samrat was back in his sulky mood after hearing praises for Simmi.
• “Still Samrat, her job was commendable as a new intern.”
• Isha was impressed by Simmi as Arjun, but nothing can budge Samrat when it’s about Simmi.
• “Shall we talk about Dr. Kiran?”
• Samrat don’t want to listen to this Simmi name anymore, Isha shook her head in disappointment. She doesn’t like the stubborn temperament of her friend.
• “Dr. Kiran, according to the mistake you have committed you should be suspended for a month, but considering your old records I am only transferring you to the pharmacy department, from now on you will keep records of stocks and manage to distribute it on time. Also, write a report with an apology letter to the child’s parents.”
• Kiran felt enraged, like the rug had been swept out from under her feet. Pharmacy department, stock management is a very hard working job. How will she do this?
• ‘I have to do this, if I want to save my job, otherwise Dr. Samrat will chase me out of Goenka hospital and I will be blacklisted.’ Kiran thought helplessly.
• “Hope you will manage it efficiently.” Isha looked at Kiran sharply. She doesn’t have a good impression of this junior doctor.
• Kiran nodded her head obediently. “Alright, Dr. Samrat.”
• ‘This is all happening because of that new intern, Dr. Simmi Oberoi. Because of her, I am demoted. Being an intern, why did she need to be extra smart in the park, I would have saved that boy’s life, even I am a doctor.’
• Kiran convinently blamed Simmi in her heart for her demotion and resented her. She strides to cafeteria rather than pharmacy department to get some refreshments and calm herself down.
• Simmi dealt with two accident cases in a row in the emergency ward. After done with stitches, band-aid, prescribed medicine and sending them off, she took a glass full of water and gulped it down when another case arrived.
• A poisonous snake had bitten a teenage girl in her ankle.
• “Get me anti-venom fast.” Simmi asked the nurse and examined the girl’s feet, which was turning blue.
• “Dr. Simmi's stock of anti-venom is finished, and we didn’t receive the fresh stock of drugs for today.” The head nurse of the emergency ward replied in panic after checking for medicine stock.
• “What nonsense, why couldn’t it be arranged beforehand?” Simmi scolded the head nurse.
• She was sulky at the management of Goenka hospital and its emergency ward.
• “Dr. we have already sent the empty boxes and list of new stock with request to approve fast, but got to know that manager of pharmacy department has been changed today itself and new manager didn’t join her duty yet.” A nurse explained the whole situation.
• Simmi rubbed her temple. She was again highly disappointed in the management, but it’s not the time to curse them.
• “I don’t want excuses, I want anti-venom right away.” Simmi said in slight high pitch in irritation and went to her patient.
• Head nurse from emergency ward made a call to pharmacy department, told them the entire situation, but their manager how didn’t he show up yet. They said they will contact the manager and sending the required stock as soon as possible.
• In the cafeteria Kiran got a call from her new department to show up fast coz they need her permission to release new stock as the in-charge of emergency ward, Dr Simmi need anti-venom urgently which was held for her permission.
• “Alright I will be there shortly.” Kiran said to pharmacy department but she had no plan to go there fast and help Dr. Simmi.
• ‘The new intern Dr. Simmi is a very smart doctor, I am sure she will handle the patient without injection too.’
