Chapter 57

  • What was the deal with her? Travis wondered. He still wasn't over the fact that she'd rejected his proposal. His pride had been wounded, but his heart had also been broken. Sure, he loved spending time with Daniel and he enjoyed picking him up from school, but he'd have preferred it if he didn't have to leave afterwards. He'd have preferred going into the house with him, having dinner together, and going to bed with Freya in his arms.
  • He'd stayed away from the house on purpose. It reminded him of Freya in ways he didn't want to, so he'd told himself that perhaps if he kept his distance this ache for her—This persistent craving that was threatening to drive him nuts would go away, but even now as he stood watching her, the slip of cotton she was wearing barely reaching her knees, her glorious hair tumbling around her shoulders in wanton disarray, the expression on her beautiful face, those big blue eyes—he knew he'd been crazy to think that he'd ever stop wanting this woman. He'd never feel the way she made him feel with another woman… And she was never going to be his wife, no matter how much he wanted her to be.
  • “Do you really hate me that much?” His voice was low, clipped, cutting through the quiet.
