- He’d barely stopped talking before Daniel had leapt off the seat and run to him. Travis picked him up. Daniel didn’t even look to Freya for reassurance.
- Freya felt silly tears prick her eyes and turned away, but she heard Donna saying quietly from across the small aisle, “Stop worrying. He’s a good man, Freya. He’ll take care of you both.”
- Freya fought valiantly for control and looked at Donna, gave her a watery smile. She couldn’t hide anything from this woman who had seen her devastation when she’d come home. Her father hadn’t even noticed, and had barely acknowledged her pregnancy in his sheer self-absorption. Donna had even helped her find a place to stay until she had the baby, and when Daniel had appeared with her, her father had merely raised an eyebrow and proceeded to behave as if he’d always been there.
