- “You lied to me,” I said. “I know all of Ella’s nurses. None of them talks through a voice changer.”
- “I’m not using a voice changer,” the voice said. “I was born with this voice. You don’t remember me. I’m Lila. When Ella was in the hematology unit, I worked nights. You used to cry in the hallway all the time.”
