Chapter 4 Striking A Deal

  • Although she wanted to refute, Qi Yushi could not bring herself to continue.
  • With his handsome looks and wealthy background, such a man is bound to be the Prince Charming on a white horse of many ladies’ dreams...
  • Had she not still been carrying a torch for Cen Ziming, she probably would have fallen for him.
  • Thinking about Cen Ziming hurt her heart - she could not carry on thinking about that man.
  • Qi Yushi shook her head. “No, this deal is too absurd.”
  • The moment her voice fell, there was a knock on the door. “Young Master Zhan, breakfast has been prepared.” the person outside said.
  • “Come in.” Zhan Senyu stood up. “You can carefully consider my offer first, there’s not to rush and reject it immediately.”
  • Not waiting for Qi Yushi’s reply, he walked out of the room.
  • A maid pushed a food cart in. As she approached nearer, Qi Yushi realised that it was stacked with various breakfast options - not only were there Chinese cuisine and Western cuisine, there was even Japanese cuisine.
  • “Steward Yan wasn’t sure what kind of cuisine you liked, so he’d asked me to prepare a variety.” the maid respectfully explained. “May I ask which cuisine you would like to try first?”
  • Feeling a little uneasy, Qi Yushi said the first thing that came to her mind. “Let’s try the Western cuisine first.”
  • “Yes, Miss.”
  • The maid proceeded to take a small table from the bottom of the food cart before setting it up in front of Qi Yushi. She then placed sandwiches, a fried egg, a salad and milk before her.
  • Seeing the food made Qi Yushi realise that she was indeed a little bit hungry.
  • As long as I eat, I’ll regain enough energy to leave this place. With this in mind, Qi Yushi immediately began to eat.
  • The moment a sandwich entered her mouth, Qi Yushi widened her eyes - she had never tasted such a delicious sandwich in her 23 years of living! Looks like this fellow Zhan Senyu really knows how to enjoy life!
  • When Qi Yushi had more or less cleared her food, the maid asked again: “May I ask if Miss Qi would like anything else to eat?”
  • Qi Yushi waved her hand. “No need, no need.”
  • She then rubbed her stomach, feeling like she was about to burst.
  • The maid kept away the remaining food and respectfully bowed to Qi Yushi before pushing the food cart away and leaving.
  • Just then, a phone suddenly rang.
  • Realising that it was her ringtone, Qi Yushi fumbled through her bag to fish it out. Upon seeing the three words “Tao Yuhan” flash on her screen as the caller ID, her face instantly hardened - all of the good feelings that she had after eating a hearty breakfast sank down into bitterness.
  • “Hey, Tao Yuhan, what more do you want?”
  • From the other line, Tao Yuhan’s gentle voice with a hint of malice sounded. “Qi Yushi, I forgot to tell you that Ziming and I had recently been invited to an auction held by a charity organisation. As such, I decided to auction away a diamond necklace.”
  • Qi Yushi frowned. An auction? What does it have to do with me?
  • “That necklace is really incredibly beautiful, I heard it’s called “The Star of the Ocean…”
  • Hearing this, Qi Yushi suddenly tightened her grip on her phone. “Tao Yuhan, I dare you.”
  • “Hmph, why would I dare not to? It’s my thing anyway.”
  • “You know well enough whether or not it really belongs to you!”
  • Qi Yushi has never met a person with such a brazen personality - the necklace was a precious item that her mother had left for her, how dare Tao Yuhan claim that it belonged to her!
  • “Well, it fell into my hands, so it’s mine now.” Tao Yuhan smirked, feeling extremely satisfied that she had pushed Qi Yushi to her limit. She laughed, “My, I can’t believe that there are some people in this world who can’t do something as simple as looking after their things - who are they to go around blaming people when they fall into the hands of others? It’s mine now, I’m free to do whatever I want to do with it.”
  • Some people in this world can’t do something as simple as looking after their things...Tao Yuhan was not referring to the necklace, but to Cen Ziming.
  • Qi Yushi’s eyes flashed with coldness.
  • Forget Cen Ziming - but she had to get the necklace back no matter what.
  • “I will get the necklace back. As for you, Tao Yuhan, I will make you pay.”
  • Qi Yushi then hung up the phone.
  • After quite a bit of time, Zhan Senyu came back.
  • Qi Yushi was curled up on the bed hugging a pillow, her thick hair cascading down as she lowered her head, such that her expression could not be seen. Upon hearing the front door open, she lifted up her head. Zhan Senyu saw her pale face - she looked miserable, save for the resolute look in her big, bright eyes.
  • Zhan Senyu was not sure why, but seeing her crestfallen face made his heart hurt.
  • Pushing aside his absurd thoughts, Zhan Senyu raised his eyebrows. “Were you waiting for me?”
  • When he had just entered, the bodyguards had informed him that she was no longer clamouring to leave.
  • “You,” Qi Yushi sucked in a breath, as though she was mustering up her courage to ask her question. “Were you being serious about what you said just now?”
  • Zhan Senyu walked over and sat beside her.
  • The petite lady seemed to tremble a bit at his sudden actions, before regaining her composure when she realised that he was merely taking a seat.
  • “Of course I was being sincere.” Zhan Senyu had his eyes fixed on her face, not wanting to miss a single sign of emotion.
  • “I can accept your offer.” Qi Yushi stammered. The moment those words left her mouth, she saw Zhan Senyu curl the corner of his lips into a grin - ugh, it’s that charming smile to die for again. Seeing this, Qi Yushi immediately added: “But, I have one condition.”
  • Zhan Senyu did not reply; instead, he continued to gaze at her. Qi Yushi knew that he was listening carefully.
  • Qi Yushi bit her lip nervously, before she said: “I, I don’t need your money, but I need to help me bid for a necklace, a very expensive one...it may cost millions of dollars…”
  • Qi Yushi felt as though she could not carry on speaking; didn’t I say that I don’t want his money? Then why am I asking him to help me buy something worth millions of dollars immediately after? Aren’t I shooting myself in the foot like that?”
  • Seeing that look of self-irritation etched on her little face, a hint of amusement danced in Zhan Senyu’s eyes.
  • It’s been long since I've met someone who can make me this happy.
  • Feeling his eyes burning into her, Qi Yushi became worried that he had misunderstood her intentions. She gently laid a small hand on his chest as she hurriedly corrected her words: “I’m really not asking you to do this for me for your money, but rather, it’s because that necklace is incredibly important to me. I need to get it back no matter what.”
  • The soft, delicate little hand on his chest...the same hand from last night with its tender touch...
  • A rush of colours suddenly flooded into Zhan Senyu’s eyes.
  • “I promise you.” Zhan Senyu affirmed in his intoxicating and cello-like melodic deep voice.
  • Qi Yushi let out a sigh of relief - just them, she realised her hand was still on his chest. She could feel his powerful heart beating beneath the material of his shirt. Immediately, she withdrew her hand.
  • “I promise, I will definitely not pester you after half a year.”
  • Zhan Senyu’s face seemed to sink at his own words.
  • Why do I feel like there’s no point in living anymore at the thought of her leaving?
  • Of course, Qi Yushi had no idea what was going on in Zhan Senyu’s mind - in her eyes, Zhan Senyu was a person with a fixed cold and indifferent expression. Those subtle changes of emotion seemed to be always masked behind those unmoving pair of sharp eyes.
  • Seeing that Zhan Senyu was not speaking, she blinked and asked: “What’s the matter?”
  • Although Zhan Senyu’s expression had not changed much, she sensed that something was bothering me - he had that “here yet not here” look etched on his face.
  • “Have you brought your credentials?”
  • Qi Yushi shook her head. “I have my ID with me, but I’d left my residence registration booklet at home.”
  • Zhan Senyu rose. “Let’s go, I’ll accompany you to get your credentials.”
  • Qi Yushi felt a bit shocked: “Are we going today to register our marriage?”
  • “Yes, what would we do otherwise?” Zhan Senyu asked in a teasing manner.
  • Well, it’s just a fake marriage, there’s no need for a proper wedding ceremony, no is there a need to inform our family and friends - there’s nothing really to prepare for.
  • Grittingly, she replied: “Alright.”
