  • “You’re a man, Lorrenzo. What the hell do you know about not having a choice?” My voice came out sharp, brittle with anger I didn’t know was there. I regretted the words immediately, but I couldn’t take them back.
  • I ducked my head, my heart pounding, the weight of my words crushing down on me. “I’m sorry. That was out of turn.” It wasn’t just the anger it was the fear of speaking too openly to someone who was practically my boss. Someone I had no right to challenge.
