Chapter 37 Unlikely Allies
- The wind whipped through the city streets as Amara and Damian sprinted across the rooftop, the flashing lights of the black SUVs still visible in the distance. The world below them was a blur of neon signs and headlights, but up here, on the edge of the world, there was only the echo of their hurried footsteps and the sound of their breaths filling the cold night air.
- Amara’s heart was pounding, her body tense from the chase, but a deeper sense of unease was taking root. Every move felt calculated, every glance behind them a reminder that Blackout was closing in. The flash drive was still there, hidden in her pocket, but its weight had grown heavier with each passing second. Every time she touched it, every time she thought of what it held, a nagging voice in the back of her mind whispered that it was too dangerous, too important to keep, yet too valuable to let go.
- Damian was ahead of her, leading the way like a man who had run through danger a thousand times before. She wanted to hate him for everything he was—everything he stood for—but there was something about the way he moved, the way he never hesitated, that made her question everything she thought she knew.
