- I hadn't actually stayed at Diana's. I couldn't impose on her like that, especially not on a weeknight where she needed to be with her husband. But I'd stayed out late enough that I hoped Greg would be asleep by the time I got home.
- I'd been wrong before I couldn't avoid him forever. We lived in the same house. But I could minimize our interactions, protect my heart while I figured out what to do next.
- I'd managed to sneak in through the side entrance around 11:30 PM and had been hiding in my room since then. But around midnight, I realized I was thirsty and I'd left my water bottle downstairs.
