Chapter 50

  • A surge of satisfaction washed over me as I watched Lucas from across the room. There was something intoxicating about seeing his anger flare up, his pride too stubborn to even acknowledge the possibility of a divorce. The pride that had always burned too brightly in him, making him the king of his little empire, too proud to admit that maybe—just maybe—he had lost something more than he realized.
  • Vanessa’s words cut through the tense air, and I couldn’t help but notice the smirk that played on Lucas’s lips. “She’ll come crying to me sooner or later,” he said, like a man who knew he held all the power.
  • It was the same arrogance that had always repulsed me, but now, it didn’t bother me. It gave me a sick thrill to see how little he thought of Serena. He was so sure of his position, so wrapped up in his own world, that he couldn’t see the walls crumbling around him. He couldn’t see how fragile it all was.
