Chapter 46 Do You Still Keep in Touch?

  • Understanding her disposition, I began to give her gentle, soothing rubs on the back of her torso. She soon continued talking again after she managed to compose herself. "Your dad and I found you outside the entrance to the government office. Power stations were being built in town then, and we joined the construction team for the money. It was tough work. Your dad and I didn't have a car, and we had to walk all the way to the construction site. That was when we saw you sitting quietly by the roadside when we passed by the office. We first saw you in the morning, but you were still there in the cold by yourself when we headed back home around 10 that night. You looked so pitiful, rolled up into a ball as you lay there on the ground thinly dressed. You even had a fever! It was only your dad and I in our little family then, so we figured you would be the perfect addition to the family! That was when we brought you home with us."
  • Waves of sadness started welling up in me as I listened to Mom talk about our past. However, I still couldn't understand how she had found me in the small town of Waterstone when, according to Wendy, I had been abandoned by Xavier at Lakeford.
  • If that really had been the case, it would have been an impossible solo trip all the way from Lakeford to Waterstone for a mere 2-year-old, wouldn't it? So, who was the person that brought me here then? And what was their intention for doing so?
