Chapter 36

  • Tracy waited for Nathan all through the night but he didn’t show up and she ended up failing asleep on the floor near her door where she had hoped he would come knocking so that she could hear him. Waking up in the morning with a fright, she jumped up and opened the door. Rushing outside, his car wasn’t there anymore and she glanced at his house immediately but it wasn’t there as well. By the saloon car in the driveway, she knew Lucy was back and knew she would come looking for her soon. She rushed back into the house and up to her room to clear the used tissues and also take a shower. The last thing she wants was Lucy asking her what happened.
  • By evening, Nathan was still not back and Lucy had left for work because she was working night shift. Alone again, the incident of last night came back to her mind and brought tears to her eyes once more. The fact that she hadn’t seen or heard from Nathan clawing at her heart as she wondered where he could be and what he could be doing or how he was fairing. She found herself hoping that he wouldn’t do anything bad to himself and would just come home. Reaching for her phone, she dialed his number for the hundredth time and there was still no answer and she could only drop her phone on the sofa and cry herself to sleep.
  • A knock on the door woke Tracy up and she stared at her door in shock, waiting to know if she really did hear a knock. Soon, it came again, fiercely and she quickly rushed to get to it, hoping it was Nathan and a smile enveloped her face as she threw open the door. But the smile quickly died when she saw who was knocking. Tracy sighed, staring at the obviously angry girl that was standing in front of her house. She waited but she said nothing and just kept glaring at her, “good evening to you too, Cindy.”
