Chapter 5
- Riana
- “No… This is some sort of joke, you’re kidding right? You know you can’t do this… You can’t end this marriage.” He muttered as he sneered and I averted my gaze.
- “You think you can leave me huh?” He demanded as he took an inch towards me and I stepped back as my heart began to pound.
- “Xander…” Kristen tried to calm him from but he ignored her.
- “After all I’ve done for you, your family… Your parents receive free medical treatment which they could never afford, your pack was crumbling! I fucking built the pack from the state it was in to how it is now and you think leaving me is the right thing?” He hollered and I stared at the ground.
- “Why? All because you’re jealous of Kristen?” He asked and unable to suppress the rage inside, I let everything out.
- “Enough! Stop acting like I’m some jealous and paranoid wife! You spent our anniversary in the arms of another woman! You blocked me from viewing your posts online, you’ve never done as much as like my posts but you’ve dropped comments on Kristen’s posts, posted her on your wall while posing with her child like you’re one big happy family! You run out of the house at 1am when it’s Kristen but for me, you delay for hours! It’s evident that she owns your heart; no matter how hard I try, I’ll never be your mate and you’ll never love me like you love her.” I replied, panting heavily and he stared at me intently for a moment, stunned at my words.
- His face scrunched up with guilt as he bowed his head for a minute.
- “Look, I know I’ve been distant lately and it’s because of work… I’ve had so much pack duties to deal with that it’s taking a toll on me. I wanna make it up to you… How about we go on a dinner? Just you and I? Kristen has been of great help at the company because she majored in business administration.” He replied and I said nothing.
- “I’m really sorry… Micheal has been having a few issues lately and that’s why I called Alexander to help, he’s the only friend I’ve got in the pack, I hope you understand that I left for a few years… It’s really my fault for leaving Micheal’s father… The only father figure Micheal has in his life now is Alexander. I’ll try to make new friends and make sure everything changes now.” She apologized and I said nothing.
- “Enough? Go get dressed, let’s go on a date, I’ll make it up to you, I promise.” He whispered as he pulled me towards the room and I exhaled deeply.
- “Just one last chance… He might change… Let’s give him one more chance.” I whispered to Rose who was growling in disagreement although I ignored her.
- I had my bath and got changed into a shirt blue gown, I packed my hair into a ponytail and applied lipgloss before heading out.
- I found him in the sitting room, stamping his feet on the floor impatiently, his frown disappeared when he saw me and he forced a smile as he grabbed my hand.
- “I made reservations at the rock, enjoy.” Kristen muttered and I rolled my eyes as we headed to the car.
- Silence descended as we drove to the The rock, a restaurant famous for their seafoods.
- Arriving, Alexander hooked my hand with his as we walked inside, greeting a few people who smiled and bowed their heads in respect.
- We sat at the designated table, it was a middle table and I frowned, looking around to see almost everyone staring at us.
- I swallowed as I grabbed the menu. “You should try their sushi, it’s Kristen’s favorite and it gets better everytime we taste it.” A lump grew in my throat as I heard those words.
- I nodded softly, picking out another meal as the waiter took our orders.
- “So… How is work?” I tried to lighten the mood.
- “Consuming… The guards are reducing and it’s becoming a major concern, soon, our pack would be prone to attacks…”
- “I suggest you recruit more guards, maybe lower the standard for joining the pack army?” I suggested and he nodded.
- “Kristen said the same thing, I’m already working on it.” I choked on my meal immediately he said this and he passed me a glass of water. “I’ve asked the beta and gamma to recruit as many individuals as possible, they’ll be done before the end of the weak.” He continued while I coughed and struggled for breath.
- I had once suggested this a few months ago, he had dismissed my idea, saying I was a lady and I knew nothing about how the hierarchy worked and the pack needed only capable warriors.
- “Are you okay?” He asked and I nodded. Rose was in disgust, she was snarling lowly and hearing Kristen’s name roll out of his lips like it was some nice thing made her even more furious.
- Our meals were brought and we began eating, the awkward silence dominating again.
- “I’ve been painting recently…” I whispered and as he was about to reply, his phone began to ring. My eyes darted to the caller and it was Kristen.
- “A minute.” He muttered as he moved away, and I continued eating.
- As expected, he returned with a frightened expression. “I need to go, I’ll make it up to you later, this is urgent.” That was all he said before he walked away, no explanation or kiss, just some silly excuse he’s said to me more times than he’s confessed love to me.
- “We’re done, Riana… It’s time to stop settling for nothing.” Rose whispered and I nodded.
- “Yes, we’re done.”
