Chapter 2

  • FIFTEEN YEARS LATER**
  • CREEK
  • 02:15 am
  • His eyes snapped open, his heart raced frantically against it's ribcage an laid in cold sweat, Blake Blackwood's claws extended and retracted involuntarily as though grasping for something to hold on to, or transfer his aggression to.
  • His senses were on high alert as his nose picked up the scent of smoke and blood, and his ears ringing with the echoes of snarls and growls.
  • He relieved the horror just like every other night but this time it looked so real, that he could actually feel even the tiniest of detail; his father's valiant fight, his mother's desperate attempts to shield his sister and him, the terrified cries of the younger cobs, the chaos created, the lifeless bodies and blood soaked earth.
  • Blake, still laying in bed, soaked with sweat kept rubbing his eyes intending to rub the memories away, but the images still lingered seering into his brain like a branding iron, he threw the sheets and got out of bed.
  • His hand found the cigarette and lighter he kept on his bed stand earlier, and with the cigarette between his lips, he began pacing around his dark room, his claws clicking on the floor.
  • He could already feel the Moon's pull, tempting him to surrender his wolf form, and let the duty consume him, but another part of him knew that it's the most wrong time for him to let rage take over.
  • Slowly, his door creaked open and someone walked "what do you want?" Blake asked coldly with his back against the person.
  • "I sensed you having a nightmare and I didn't want you breaking any stuff" Axel replied calmly.
  • "You're my beta Axel, not my guardian! you should remember that sometimes" Blake uttered coldly and the temperature in the room dropped but not Axel's energy.
  • "You should also remember that I'm your best friend,we were first of all friends, before I became your beta" Axel mumbled stubbornly.
  • "You're still the same stubborn brat, I wonder why the universe had to do this to me" Blake scoffed, the frown not leaving his face neither did he turn to face Axel.
  • "It's almost dawn, and I can no longer sleep. Are there any pressing matters as regards to the pack that can be sorted out right now?"
  • "There is in fact a lot of letters that needs your seal, I was going to bring them by 08:00 am" Axel replied and Blake nodded.
  • "Bring them in now" He replied and at the snap of his fingers, bright light illuminated the room and he went to his work desk, while Axel bowed and walked out to get the letters.
  • New York U.S
  • 02:45 pm
  • "Mum, I can't do this!" Lyra exclaimed her voice trembling with frustration as her mum's voice hung in the air like a challenge.
  • "Lyra dear, you're not getting any younger" Aurora said sternly, her voice laced in emotions. "You're twenty already, an it's time to settle down,I personally chose Asher because he's a good guy, trust me he'd take proper care of you"
  • "And what about what I want? mum, it's my own life not yours" Lyra shook her head, her long curly brown hair bouncing with the motion.
  • "Someday princess, when you're grown enough, you'll understand why I'm doing all these" Aurora said staring pleadingly at Lyra.
  • "Really? so at twenty you don't think I'm grown enough to know what's good for me?" Lyra scoffed tapping her feet impatiently against the well tiled marble floor "As if locking me in, almost all my life isn't enough, I wonder what you think I am"
  • "look Lyra Jackson, you're getting married to Asher Starr and that's final" Aurora half yelled, her voice laced with frustration as she stared at her child who has grown into a fine yet strong headed young lady.
  • "My house,my rules" she added earning a scoff from Lyra.
  • "your house, your rules huh? we'll see about that" Lyra mumbled inaudibly and without waiting any further, she walked out of the living room, shutting the door loudly behind her.
  • "I'm sorry sweetheart, I'm only doing this for your interest, I don't want him to find you" she sniffed wiping the tear that threatening to fall off her eyes,as her mind wandered away to how Lyra would feel when she finally finds out who she really is.
  • "There's a lot you do not know yet and when the time comes for you to eventually find out,I hope you're able to forgive your mummy" She whispered clutching tightly to a couch pillow.

  • 07:00 pm
  • Alpha Blake was seated in his study, reading through the content of an old scroll when he suddenly felt a presence within.
  • "Show yourself" he mumbled calmly not taking his eyes off the scroll.
  • "I knew your senses are still quite sharp,I've missed you so much" Blake heard the voice of a pack member he cherishes and slowly a smile which faded almost immediately found it's way to his lips.
  • "why are you back?" he asked icily, expressing the exact opposite of how he really felt and Dominique froze on her spot shocked at how much authority his voice has grown to command over the Years.
  • "You don't want me around?" she pouted childishly leaving where she stood and standing somewhere brighter revealing her to be a gorgeous and slender young lady with beautiful facial features.
  • "I'm back because I miss you so much and because I heard you've been losing it frequently and staying locked up in your chamber. Blake your pack needs you" She said sitting on the white couch beside his shelf.
  • "Axel has been spitting a lot out lately, I wonder why he can't keep shut" Blake scoffed and Dominique sighed out in exasperation "so left for you,I shouldn't be aware huh? it will be full moon very soon, and this particular one is also the festival, you remember what usually happens during the festival right" she asked with her voice cracking slowly. "Blake you're Alpha now and it's no time to grow weary"
  • "I want to be alone" Blake suddenly mumbled and their eyes locked.
  • "Maybe you should surrender to your true nature, let your wolf out, at least just this once" She encouraged now wanting to let him remain in pains "you can still tame it, if you let it out yourself" She whispered and vanished leaving Blake on the edge of his humanity.
  • Surrendering at this point will be risky without human flesh in sight, and he's vowed that feasting of human flesh, will not be heard of in his pack.
  • Blake closed his eyes and found himself in the woods, darkness closed around him and the forest whispered secrets in the wind. his wolf howled in silence, straining to break free and at that moment Bake knew deep within him, that he was just a step away from losing himself forever.
