Chapter 4 Is It Really Him?

  • The car quickly stopped in front of the Monroe family's mansion.
  • I watched as the driver opened the door for Blake, who bent down and got out of the car. I quickly followed behind him.
  • Standing at the entrance of the mansion, I was momentarily stunned.
  • I thought about how my mother and I had suffered because of my brother's illness, while my good father and that mistress were living happily in this grand mansion.
  • I wondered if he ever thought about how we were doing while enjoying his wealth and luxury.
  • Probably not.
  • Thinking about this, my hands clenched.
  • "Why are you standing there doing nothing?" My father, sensing that I wasn't following him, turned to look at me.
  • I hurried to catch up, hearing the housekeeper say that the Reid family hadn't arrived yet, so my father asked me to wait in the living room.
  • Looking around, I remembered that I had lived in this house for ten years.
  • If it weren’t for that woman, my mother and I wouldn’t have been driven out.
  • I saw a piano placed by the floor-to-ceiling window in the living room.
  • A Seidl, made in Germany, was very expensive.
  • I remembered my fifth birthday when my mother bought it for me.
  • I had loved it from a young age and started learning the piano at four and a half.
  • After being sent away, I never touched it again.
  • I couldn't help but reach out, feeling both familiar and excited.
  • My index finger touched the keys lightly, and a melodious sound rang out.
  • Because it had been so long since I last played, my fingers were stiff.
  • "Who gave you permission to touch my piano?!" A clear voice, filled with anger, sounded behind me.
  • I turned around and saw Sienn standing behind me, looking fierce.
  • I remembered her. She was one year younger than me and she looked very much like her mother.
  • Now, her snarling expression made her look somewhat fierce.
  • "Yours?" I couldn't believe she had the audacity to question me.
  • Clearly, they were the ones who had destroyed my mother's marriage, spending our money.
  • And now even the gift my mother gave me had become hers?
  • I slowly clenched my fists, reminding myself over and over in my mind not to act impulsively, not to get agitated.
  • Because I didn’t yet have the power to reclaim what was rightfully mine.
  • I had to endure.
  • I was no longer the little girl who was sent away by my father eight years ago. I had grown up.
  • "Are you Aria? Are you very happy to be here?" Sienn said with a disdainful expression.
  • "But please do not be happy. You are Not welcome here! My dad just brought you back to marry you into the Reid family. It is said that the Reid—"
  • Seeing Sienn's smug expression, I furrowed my brows.
  • Just then, a servant approached. "The Reids have arrived."
  • I immediately turned my head to look, and I saw father was greeting the Reids. Then when my father turned around, I saw the man being him, pushed in a wheelchair.
  • The man’s features were deep and dignified, even sitting in a wheelchair, he commanded respect.
  • Wasn't this the same man I saw flirting with a woman in the fitting room?
  • He was actually the young master of the Reid family, Damien?!
  • But in the fitting room, I clearly saw him standing.
  • He had even been embracing that woman, showing no signs of any leg problem.
  • What was going on now?
  • Before I could figure out why this man was pretending to be disabled, my father called out to me, "Aria, come over here. This is the young master of the Reid family."
  • Wearing a flattering smile, my father introduced me, "Damien, this is Aria."
  • I looked at the young master of the Reid family in the wheelchair.
  • I was sure my father didn’t know he was faking his disability.
  • If he knew Damien was perfectly fine, there’s no way such a good opportunity would have fallen to me.
  • I wonder if my father would regret not marrying his youngest daughter to him in the future.
  • Damien said with a meaningful tone. "I injured myself while on a business trip abroad. This leg may not be able to walk, and I won’t be able to fulfill the duties of a husband—”
  • With these words, Damien looked at me intently. I knew he was waiting for my response. My heart began to race.
