Chapter 9 Family Feud!
- The company is located in the heart of the city, a 35-story commercial skyscraper.
- Originally, this building served as the headquarters of the Burrell Group. To establish the Boleyn Group, the Burrel Group moved out entirely, leaving the building vacant.
- The street surrounding the skyscraper was on lockdown, with armed police maintaining order. The scale of the operation was quite impressive.
- Jayce and Cora arrived at the building in her Audi. After getting out of the car, Cora felt a bit anxious seeing the heavy security.
- "Jayce, maybe we should forget about it. If this doesn't work, I'll think of another way," Cora suggested.
- If it were just a regular opening ceremony, Cora might have been able to pull some strings. But this Boleyn Group opening was a big deal with top-notch security. She didn't have the connections to get in easily.
- As for Jayce's reassurance that she just needed to follow him, Cora wasn't convinced. She was, after all, the Edens' heiress and had made a name for herself in Eserith over the years.
- Jayce had just returned from out of town and didn't know many people. What connections could he possibly have?
- The families that once had good relations with the Howes had either declined or turned their backs on them. They weren't going to help Jayce.
- "No need. We'll go in," Jayce said confidently.
- Cora felt a bit awkward, wondering what to do next. But Jayce was already leading her inside.
- "Jayce, maybe we should just leave," Cora suggested nervously.
- Jayce smiled. "Don't worry."
- With that, the two walked up to security. Cora felt helpless. She couldn't believe she was going along with this. If they got kicked out, it would be a huge embarrassment for the Edens.
- "Miss, may I see your ID, please?"
- Lost in her thoughts, Cora realized it was her turn. Reluctantly, she handed over her ID.
- "Beep."
- "Miss, please go in."
- Cora was stunned. Did I hear that right?
- "Me? I can go in?"
- The officer remained expressionless. "Of course."
- Cora and Jayce walked through security and entered the venue.
- She was still in shock. How did Jayce get her in? This seemed impossible! The Edens had only received two invitations, so how did her ID work?
- Just as Cora was feeling both surprised and delighted, Paul and his son suddenly walked over.
- "Cora! What are you doing here?!"
- Seeing Paul and Victor, Cora frowned. "What I'm doing here is none of your business."
- Paul's face darkened. "How dare you sneak in here?! Do you have any idea where this is?!"
- The Edens only had two invitations, used by Paul and Victor. Cora definitely shouldn't have been able to get in. Her presence in the venue was a clear sign she'd snuck in!
- This woman had some nerve!
- "If you get caught, it won't just be your problem. You'll drag the Edens. Can you take responsibility for that?!" Paul scolded.
- Cora frowned. "We used our IDs to get in, we didn't sneak in. Stop making baseless accusations!"
- Paul sneered. "Using your IDs? You two?"
- "I know exactly who you are, Cora. You expect me to believe you got an invitation on your own? Do you think I'm a child?"
- Cora replied, "Jayce brought me in. Stop making a fuss, or you'll just embarrass yourselves."
- Paul laughed loudly. "Him? Do you think he could get you in? Cora, are you out of your mind? Talking nonsense like this? Following someone like him is only making you worse. No, I can't let you two stay, or you'll disgrace the Edens!"
- Paul was a selfish person. If Cora and Jayce were caught sneaking in, the Edens would face the consequences, not just Cora.
- Instead of waiting for someone else to find out, he decided to report them himself.
- "Security! Security!"
- Paul suddenly shouted, drawing everyone's attention. Two security guards approached.
- "What's going on here?"
- Paul pointed at Cora and said, "They don't have invitations. They snuck in! Get them out of here!"
- Immediately, the crowd's eyes took on a mocking glint.
- Family feud!
- The Edens members were turning against each other and reporting one another.
- This was getting interesting.
- The two security guards came over and took Jayce and Cora's IDs to check them again.
- "No problem, both of them are invited guests, and they are seated in the VIP section," the security guard confirmed.
- With those words, Paul was left dumbfounded.
- "That's impossible! How could they have the qualifications to come in, let alone be VIPs? You must have made a mistake!"
- Paul shouted, annoying among those around.
- Initially, Jayce couldn't be bothered to deal with them, but now they were making a scene.
- He took out his phone and dialed Eric's number.
- "Senior, I'm Eric. What can I do for you?"
- "Cancel Paul and Victor's bidding qualification."
- As soon as Jayce finished speaking, Paul chuckled.
- "Jayce, what are you pretending for here? It's one thing to act in front of others, but in front of me? I know exactly who you are!"
- "Just because you make a phone call, you think you can cancel our qualification? Are you daydreaming?"
- Paul boasted, while the security radio suddenly crackled.
- "Captain!"
- "Mr. Burrell orders to cancel the bidding qualification for Paul and Victor. Escort them out."
- The voice was not loud, but everyone heard it clearly.
- The qualification is canceled? Really canceled?
- And it was personally notified by Mr. Burrell?
- Just with one phone call from Jayce, their qualifications were revoked!
- All eyes turned towards Jayce, their expressions changing slightly. Who exactly was this young man, and what was his background?
- The security guards, expressionless, approached Paul and Victor.
- "You two have had your qualifications revoked. Please leave the premises," the security guard stated firmly.
- Paul's face turned pale.
- "What? You must be mistaken. I'm Paul from the Edens, and this is my son, Victor. We have the qualifications to bid!"
- The security guard remained serious. "Not anymore. Please leave immediately, or we will take enforcement measures."
- Paul was bewildered. "What do you mean 'not anymore'? This can't be! Where's your supervisor? Get your supervisor here! We had an agreement earlier … "
- While Paul was protesting, several security guards grabbed them and forcibly escorted them out, just like what happened to the father and son before.
- Cora turned to Jayce, her face full of astonishment.
- In just a few minutes, Paul and his son had their qualifications revoked. Was it really because of that one phone call from Jayce?
- To this, Jayce seemed completely unconcerned, saying calmly, "Cora, let's take our seats."
- With time pressing, Cora had no time to dwell on it. She hurried into the main hall and found her designated seat.
- It wasn't until she sat down that she realized, This wasn't just a VIP seat. It was practically the central spot, right in the front row, with the chairman's podium just two meters away. How did she end up in such a prime location? What was going on here?
