Chapter 8 Sarah's True Intentions

  • Sofia's bowels were cleared, and she was no longer in pain. Yet, she felt as if she had lost her soul. She lowered her head and took a glance before she let out a scream—she was too shocked. She fainted immediately after that! Sarah didn't seem the least bit bothered by Sofia's reactions. She simply turned to give instructions to Joseph. "She can only drink water for today, and she can only ingest soft foods tomorrow. She'll also have to take some supplements for her intestines. After that, she should be able to eat like usual. However, I would recommend she avoid oily, spicy, and cold foods for a week. Also, she should avoid alcohol!"
  • Before Joseph could respond to Sarah, Sarah turned around and addressed Edward. "Her intestines were inflamed, so she will still need to get an IV drip." Edward nodded before beaming at Sarah. "Tell me, Miss Walker—how did you do that?" Edward had assumed that Sarah was lying, but she actually managed to resolve Sofia's issue within a matter of minutes!
  • "It's no big deal. I just massaged a few of her meridian points to stimulate her bowel movements. Once things started moving in there, she just had to release all her gas and then feces. Naturally, the blockage would be cleared after that." Sarah made the whole process sound extremely simple, but Edward knew that the meridian points and the strength applied to each area were crucial to the success of this procedure as well. This has to be one of her special skills, he thought. Then, Edward handed out an offer without hesitation. "Can I hire you to work at my hospital, Miss Walker? The hospital can cover all of your brother's bills!"
  • Sarah was rather taken aback at first. "I just got back to the country, so I might be a little more occupied for the time being. I won't be able to work every day," she explained. She also had to care for Wolford. "That's fine! You can just stroll around the hospital whenever you have the time!" Edward offered. He was well aware of Sarah's worth!
  • Sarah nodded upon hearing this. "Sure. That sounds fine. Also, I can provide a write-up of the massaging technique I just used. You guys can take a look at it, and I can teach you guys the specifics if you guys are interested," she offered. "Sure, sure! That's great! That's so generous of you!" Edward cried.
  • "You're too nice, Mr. Tanner. I'll head back now, and I'll come over tomorrow!" Sarah replied.
  • "Sure. You deserve some rest!"
  • After bidding goodbye to Edward, Sarah turned to glance at Sofia, who had passed out on the bed. A complacent smirk formed on Sarah's lips as this was exactly the outcome she had wanted. She had only stepped forward to offer treatment for Sofia because she knew this was how things would turn out. Sarah couldn't go against her ethics in practice, so she couldn't intentionally cause any harm to Sofia. However, just embarrassing Sofia in public was enough to resolve some of the hatred that Sarah felt toward her!
  • When Sarah glanced across the room, she spotted Adam and realized how he was staring at her. At the same time, she felt a sharp pain in the shoulder that he had squeezed earlier, and she instinctively shot him a fierce glare. How can he call himself a man when he uses such force against a woman? I have no respect for someone like him! Sarah turned away with her head held high. She had just entered the elevator and pressed the button for her floor when she saw a tall figure towering before her.
  • Sarah's instinct was to shrink away into the corner of the elevator. She reached her hand into her back pocket and felt for her scalpel, which was still inside. The more Sarah retreated into her corner, the more Adam approached her. His aura was so strong that it seemed to weigh down on Sarah's chest. "I've already saved your sister. What else do you want from me?" Sarah straightened her back as she spoke in an icy tone.
  • Adam looked down at the woman, who was a whole head shorter than she was. "You intended to embarrass her!" When Sarah recalled how devastated Sofia had looked earlier, she couldn't help but chuckle to herself. "Well, that's the payment I get for helping, I guess!"
  • Adam's gaze darkened when he saw the cheeky smile on Sarah's face. Why does she look like a cunning fox when she laughs? I can see vigilance in her eyes, but I don't see a hint of fear in them. Furthermore, she's different from all the other women—she doesn't seem to show any admiration toward me, either! She's really something special! Adam thought.
  • "Why would you do that? What has Sofia ever done to you?" Adam asked. The smile on Sarah's face froze as a layer of ice seemed to form over her face. "You should ask your sister about the sort of things she had done in the past!" Six years ago, Sofia and Joseph had returned to Astonville after their graduation ceremony. With Joseph's handsome looks and outstanding skills, it wasn't hard for him to impress Sofia's father, Daniel Parish.
  • Back then, Adam had stayed in Tillbank for a while as he had other matters to handle. By the time he got back to Astonville, Sofia and Joseph had already gotten their marriage certificate and were already preparing for their wedding. Adam thought Joseph seemed like a decent person, so he didn't pry into their relationship. Adam figured that Sofia could marry whomever she wanted as long as she liked the guy. He believed that divorce was always an option if things didn't work out.
  • However, after what happened earlier, Adam was intrigued as he realized how Sarah, Sofia, and Joseph seemed to share a complicated relationship. I'm surprised that Joseph chose to protect Sarah. I can't believe he even went on his knee to beg her. I hadn't expected that, Adam thought. Of course, Adam could ask Sofia or Joseph about it, but for some reason, he felt more interested in hearing Sarah's answer.
  • However, Sarah did not go along with his wishes. She did not give him an answer, and she was pushing all of the responsibility back on Sofia instead. Adam felt rather annoyed for this reason. "I don't care what happened between you guys. I will not allow you to hurt her like that in the future!" he barked.
  • "Hah! Adam Parish, do you know who's the victim here? You should verify your facts before you speak. Also, I technically saved your sister's life, even though I may have embarrassed her a little. How did I hurt her? If I had wanted to harm her, you would be sending her off to the morgue by now!" Sarah glared at Adam angrily. He's a grown man. Can't he develop a bigger picture of the situation? How did he survive until today with that childish brain of his?
  • Adam stared at the woman's face. Her features were scrunched up in anger, and her pink lips moved as she protested against his words. For some reason, he felt his throat muscles constricting as he took a step forward and pressed his hand against the wall of the elevator. Then, he pulled her close and pressed her toward his chest. With his head lowered, he gave her an icy glare. "What did you just call me, Sarah?"
  • Did she just call me by my full name in that tone? People in Astonville call me Mr. Parish if they don't know me well enough. I can't believe this woman yelled my name twice! Does she not know who I am, or is she testing my limits?
