Chapter 4 Happiness

  • MIA FRANCISCO
  • I have never been so happy as I was today. I mean I have had my happy days but today was just exceptional.
  • Not only was I going to see Chris after six long years but we are also going to talk about our wedding plans and get to know each other better.
  • I have been crushing on Chris since I was a little girl and we were good friends with one until we got to middle school and he changed his attitude towards me.
  • Chris became an entirely different person from me. He always made fun of me and called me a nerd. Chris and I had a cliche teenage story.
  • While he was the bad boy who had girls fawning over him and wanting his attention, he also excelled in his school works too. I, on the other hand, was the girl who love to read books and mind her business but Chris would call me a nerd.
  • He always made fun of me while in high school and he protected me as well although in his defense, he would say he doesn't give anyone the right the bully me as he was the only one that could.
  • I would be lying if I say I was never jealous of seeing him with other girls that weren't me.
  • I stared at the navy blue box in my hands before opening it to see the gold necklace with my name engraved on it. It was the graduation gift I got from Chris.
  • That day he had stylishly put them in my bag. I saw him touching my bag while standing besides me but I did not realize that was what he was doing until I got home and saw it.
  • I could still remember how I felt when I saw it. The next day, I went to meet Chris to ask him about it but I was informed he left the country.
  • That same month, his parents moved away and I have not been able to hear from him ever since then although I do see his social media post. He posted rarely and hardly used his Instagram.
  • He had less than fifteenth pictures on his Instagram page and all of them were blurry pictures of him.
  • I heard a knock on my door, snapping me back to reality.
  • "Yes, who is that?" I asked, closing the navy blue box in my hand.
  • The door opened and my mother came in with a smile on her face.
  • I knew she was genuinely happy for me. She has known of my feelings for Chris since I was a little girl.
  • "You haven't gone to bed?" She asked me and I shook my head.
  • "No. I just came out the front of the shower," I replied.
  • "I see," she said, coming to sit on my bed.
  • I sat down on my bed too before hugging her.
  • "I am so happy mother. I have never been so happy as I am today," I told her.
  • "I am also happy for you Mia. I am happy that you are happy. You are finally going to have the man you have always dreamed of," she told me.
  • I pulled back from my mother. "But I am a little nervous mother. I mean it's been a long I saw him physically. I do not know how to behave. I know I have always composed myself a lot but it's Chris we are talking about here and..." My mother placed her hand on my shoulder.
  • "Breathe Mia, breath. Trust me when I tell you that you are good to go and besides you guys have known each other for a very long time now so worry not," she assured me.
  • I smiled.
  • "Chris is unpredictable. I know he is a very stubborn child but he is smart and caring. I know he will do right by you and besides he has always liked you too," she caressed my cheek.
  • "The both of you got to a stage where you are always arguing but I know that is because you were both fighting your feelings for one another. You will be fine. You are both adults now so worry not. You will be fine," she assured me.
  • "Thank you so much mother," I said before hugging her.
  • "You might want to sleep now. You need your beauty sleep for tomorrow," she told me and I nodded my head.
  • She kissed me on the cheek. "Goodnight my princess," she said.
  • "Goodnight mother," I told her, settling on my bed.
  • I struggled to fall asleep but I eventually did and when I woke up, it was morning.
  • ******************
  • CHRIS LYON
  • I have never been more prepared for a day than I was for today. I slept last night with the plan in my mind of making Mia hate me. All I had to do was to make her angry and for her to tell her parents that she doesn't want to marry me anymore.
  • I did not understand why I was surprised that she wanted to marry me. I mean, she has always been an obedient girl and does everything her parents told her to do.
  • I was a lady's man and I know just want to do and say to get them pulling their panties for me but instead, I wasn't going to be that man today as I didn't want to impress anyone.
  • I felt my stomach churn as I imagined conversing with her. It's been a long time since I last saw her and as much as I was angry, I wondered how I would react when I finally saw her.
  • I shrugged off that feeling before walking out of the house and into my car to go meet her.
  • I arrived at the destination as told and sat down waiting for her. Trust me when I say I was surprised to see that she has not arrived because it was unlike her.
  • Mia has always been punctual and so I looked at my wristwatch to realize that I came ten minutes earlier than the supposed time but still it surprised me.
  • I didn't let that bother me and decided to while away time with my phone. I smirked as I looked at the attached image my friend, Ethan had sent to me.
  • From Ethan: The ladies here are hot. When are you coming?
  • To Ethan: I will come soon. Just hold on. Hope the place is safe. Don't want my face in the newspapers anymore. My father would bury me alive or feed me to an animal in the sea if I create any more problems for him.
  • From Ethan: Sure. It's safe. Wouldn't want you getting into more trouble than you are already in. Good luck sneaking out.
  • I let out a small laugh. Ethan doesn't know of my current situation. All he thinks is that I have been restricted from leaving the house and is heavily guarded but that was because of what I told them.
  • I haven't told him of the reason because I have no intention of getting married and I would do whatever it takes to make sure I do not.
  • I was too young to get married.
  • Although I plan on going to meet Ethan after my conversation with Mia, I had no intentions of fooling around. I was just going to behave a nice time and go back home and that was it.
  • I raised my head to look at the entrance and my eyes twitched when I saw a beautiful young lady with blonde hair walking in.
  • She looked familiar, I said to myself as I watched her tuck a strand of her hair at the back of her ear. She was looking around as if she was looking for someone.
  • I watched her movement tentatively. It was as if I was charmed by her beauty.
  • She's perfect, I said to myself. I suddenly felt my mouth dry.
  • "Beautiful!" I say without realizing.
  • She kept walking while looking around and I followed her movement like a compelled man until she looked in my direction and our eyes met.
  • Never I had felt so mesmerized by anyone's eyes before. Her ocean-blue eyes were appealing.
  • I felt a jolt of electricity run down my staring into those beautiful ocean blue eyes of hers. I couldn't look away and I couldn't believe it.
  • She suddenly waved at me, snapping me back to reality. I shrugged off whenever he felt as he looked behind me to see if there was anyone behind me that she was waving at or if it was indeed i she was waving at.
  • I looked at her frantically as she walked closer to me with a smile on her face. "Christopher?" She called and I swallowed the lump that formed in my throat.
  • It dawn on me after some seconds that she was Mia.
  • "Mia?" I said in a questioning manner and she nodded my head.
  • 'Fuck!' I cursed mentally.
  • I knew she was familiar the moment I saw her but it never dawn on me that she was Mia. The Mia I knew was beautiful but the one standing in front of me is more beautiful and hotter than she was.
