- Jacks' thoughts racing, he paces the little room of their makeshift safehouse. His sense of approaching danger was unabated after learning of Lucy's escape, which had rocked their lives once more. Charlotte was sitting on the sofa, worriedly hugging Lily.
- "What was her means of escape?" The tight hush broke with a trembling voice from Charlotte. "We were supposed to be safe."
