• The vision shatters.
• I wake with a jolt, my body refusing to move at first. It feels as though I’m still trapped somewhere between that vision and the present, my limbs heavy and unresponsive, my breath shallow. My eyes are open—wide, staring at the ceiling above me. It feels unfamiliar at first, but then recognition settles in slowly. I’ve seen it before. My gaze drifts, taking in the room as sensation returns to my body in uneven waves, my joints loosening one by one. A dull ache gathers behind my eyes.
