Chapter 4 A Balance Of Fourteen Figures

  • Stop humiliating me!
  • Upon hearing that, Eric felt as though he had been struck by a bolt of lightning.
  • So, I'm making her feel humiliated? But I'm merely speaking the truth!
  • He felt aggrieved, but still, he explained, “Listen to me, Serena. I really have a hundred million—”
  • “That's enough!” Serena bellowed shrilly, cutting him off.
  • Would I not know whether he has money when we've been married for three years? Besides, if he did have that much money, how would I have ended up in such dire straits today?
  • When Eric saw that his wife was growing emotional, he went silent briefly. After she had composed herself, he solemnly looked at her and said, “I hope you can believe me this once, Serena.”
  • Serena opened her mouth, but when she glimpsed the trace of anguish in his somber gaze, the words on her tongue got stuck in her throat.
  • Should I really believe him? But where did he get a hundred million?
  • For some inexplicable reason, a glimmer of hope sparked to life within her.
  • Guffawing, Andres scoffed, “Yeah, you should believe him, Serena. After all, he's the most outstanding man you handpicked from among your countless suitors!”
  • At his comment, the crowd chortled as well.
  • Back then, Serena's suitors comprised wealthy heirs, rising stars in the political field, and elites from the business industry, all of whom were at the top of the human social ranks. No one expected her to choose Eric, a homeless man.
  • Everyone felt that she must have been blind.
  • When Andres had finished laughing, he shifted his gaze to Eric. “Didn't you say that you've got a hundred million? Where is it? Take it out for us to have a look at it!”
  • Having said that, he rummaged through the latter's pant pockets and took out a bill.
  • Don't tell me you're hiding it in your pockets? But there's only a buck in your pant pockets. Could the hundred million you claimed to have actually refer to the sperm count in your balls? Haha...
  • Andres' vulgar words finally had everyone present bursting into raucous laughter.
  • With his face as dark as thunder, Eric pushed Andres away. Then, he stated, “The hundred million is in my bank card. If I want to take it out, I can naturally do so.”
  • “And where's your card?” Andres pressed.
  • “I didn't bring it with me,” Eric admitted.
  • Following that, the crowd was further convinced that he was merely boasting. The look in their eyes as they regarded Serena and her mother turned even more derisive.
  • They had never expected such entertainment during a family meeting.
  • Nonetheless, Andres refused to let the matter go. “That's okay. You brought your phone, yes? Show us how many zeros there are in a hundred million!”
  • Eric was silent for a moment before he nodded in agreement. He then took out his phone, tapped open his bank application, and showed the man his account.
  • Seeing that he had done it for real, Andres was slightly surprised. Could he truly have a hundred million?
  • However, he promptly spluttered when he made out the figures on the screen.
  • He snatched Eric's phone away and showed it to everyone present as though he had made a novel discovery.
  • “Quick, look how many zeros there are in Eric's account! Let me count. One, two, three... twelve, thirteen, fourteen! It's a fourteen-figure balance! There's thirty trillion in Anglandurn currency in his account! It's more than Anglandur's GDP in a year! Oh my God, he's the wealthiest man in the world!” Andres cried out with an exaggerated expression on his face.
  • On the heels of that, he could not maintain the act anymore. He doubled over with laughter, cackling so hard that he could hardly catch his breath.
  • Everyone else also cracked up.
  • “I wonder where this fool got a fake software to dupe others.”
  • “Never mind that, but the balance indicates thirty trillion! He must have keyed in the figure blindly with his eyes closed, huh?”
  • “From his tone earlier, I almost believed that he really had money. Unexpectedly, it was nothing but a joke!”
  • Eric snatched his phone back from Andres. Just when he was about to speak, Serena stopped him from doing so.
  • “That's enough!” Serena's face was devoid of expression, but she was as pale as a sheet. “Cut it out, Eric. Don't make a fuss anymore.”
  • “Serena, I—”
  • Without pausing, Serena continued, “Undeniably, your acting skills are superb. Just now, I almost believed you. You succeeded in fooling me before the entire family. You win, Mr. Billionaire. Let's get a divorce!”
