Chapter 7 He Was Poisoned

  • At eleven o'clock at night, Selene was awoken by a fierce thirst.
  • She experienced an unprecedented dryness in her mouth. Her throat felt like it was on fire.
  • Moonlight enveloped the unfamiliar room, its luxurious furnishings causing her heart to race with anxiety.
  • Where am I? How did I end up here?
  • She scrambled out of the large bed in a panic.
  • Bang!
  • A loud noise suddenly came from upstairs, startling her.
  • Followed by another crash, it felt like an earthquake.
  • Someone is smashing things. What is this place?
  • She hurried out of her room and saw the butler, Yael Kline, pacing anxiously at the top of the stairs, his hands tightly clasped together.
  • "Mr. Kline."
  • Seeing him, Selene instantly calmed down and cautiously approached.
  • "Mrs. Lowell, please go back to your room. Mr. Lowell is having an episode. Be careful he doesn’t hurt you."
  • Yael rushed over to her, grabbing her to take her back to her room.
  • Clang!
  • Another loud noise echoed, and Yael sighed.
  • "Let me see him."
  • Always curious about the man’s health, Selene left Yael and ran up the stairs.
  • She didn’t know where this courage came from, probably just a spur-of-the-moment decision.
  • Bang!
  • Another loud noise came from inside the room.
  • Following the sound, she approached the door and quietly pushed it open.
  • The nearly sixty-square-meter room was in disarray.
  • The couch and coffee table were overturned on the floor.
  • Glass shards mixed with broken picture frames and other unidentifiable objects littered the floor.
  • Colton leaned against an ancient chaise lounge, his white shirt completely unbuttoned, exposing his sickly pale skin that did not diminish the allure of his chest and abs.
  • "Get out! Who told you to come in?"
  • A crystal ashtray suddenly smashed to the floor in front of her, the man's narrow, sinister phoenix eyes tinged with a bloodthirsty red.
  • She was sure he was poisoned.
  • Selene glanced around to make sure nothing else would fly at her and then firmly stepped forward.
  • "Didn’t you hear what I said? Get out now!"
  • The man on the chaise lunged forward and grabbed her by the neck.
  • Cold! His hands were chillingly cold, like ice on the coldest day of winter.
  • A flash of insight struck her mind, and ignoring the suffocating feeling, she reached out and touched the man’s chest.
  • Cold! His body was as cold as his hands.
  • "You… Let go… of me. Let… me… help you…"
  • "How can you help? You’re clearly here to die!"
  • With heartache so intense he wanted to destroy everything, Colton was completely irrational.
  • Desperately, Selene lifted her garment hem and pulled a silver needle from the handmade pouch at her waist.
  • "What are you doing? Don’t be presumptuous!"
  • Seeing what was in her hand, the man grew even angrier, his grip tightening.
  • Selene was nearly suffocating when she raised the silver needle and struck several acupoints on the man's chest.
  • Quickly, the pain inside his body was significantly alleviated, and a shocked Colton released his grip.
  • "What have you done to me?"
  • He looked at the silver needles on his chest, utterly incredulous.
  • Having been poisoned, he had consulted numerous doctors from almost every specialty, but no one had ever been able to alleviate his pain.
  • The feeling was surreal, yet undeniably real!
