Chapter 492 The Jealousy’s Out of the Bag

  • The man standing by the bed arched a brow. Clearly, he wasn’t against the idea. So Selene didn’t babble at him—she just called Mason Markle. He already had the helicopter lined up. By dusk, she and Colton Lowell left the Lowell Manor and headed for the Lowell Group headquarters. The helicopter waited on the rooftop, Mason already aboard. They lifted off from Nodale, and only then did Selene text Qiu Jiu: “I’m on my way. It’ll take about three hours.” Colton saw her quick move, frowned, and asked, “How did you end up dealing with him?” Selene told the truth. “Picked him up in the mountains.” “Picked him up how!” Colton’s tone was pure wounded spouse. Selene shot him a look. Best not push it too far—if she really pissed him off, she’d be the one to pay. She softened her voice and laid it out: “Two years ago, Qiu Jiu was being hunted down. He hid in my herb garden for days. He had nothing to eat, so he dug up my ginseng and wolfed it down. Ended up with a nosebleed and passed out in the garden. I went up the mountain to check how the herbal medicine was growing, found him, and brought him home.” “And then? How long did he hide out at your place?” “Quite a while. Ate my food, drank my drinks every day. Sabrina’s chickens? He slaughtered more than a few.” Selene said it casually, not noticing the icy flash in Colton’s eyes—or the hand reaching her way. Not until her seatbelt snapped open and Colton hauled her up by the wrist did she realize the danger. “What are you doing?” Mason was seated right behind them. She was honestly scared he’d do something that would make her want to crawl into a hole. But Colton’s anger had flared too hot to rein in. He looped an arm around her slim waist, sat her on his thigh, and stared her down, face dark: “You’re blind and you brought a grown man home to hide him? Weren’t you afraid people in the village would call him your b*stard lover?” “Heh.” Mason almost burst out laughing and clapped a hand over his mouth. Even he could tell Colton was jealous. Of course Selene could. She grinned on purpose, all carefree: “Mr. Lowell, I’m a single woman with two kids. In the villagers’ eyes, I’ve never been a saint. Why would I care about gossip? And you think Little Wine and Sabrina are meek little angels? Unlike you, they’ve got a heart. They know how to stand up for a damsel in distress.” Mason smothered a laugh so hard his stomach hurt. Colton actually had no comeback and went quiet. Selene could see he was holding back because Mason and the pilot were right there. She leaned to his ear and murmured, “Mr. Lowell, ease up. Keep this up and your jealousy’s gonna leak all over the place. By then, even Assistant Mason won’t be able to save you.” “Ah… ow!” Pain pinched her waist—Colton had dug his fingers into the soft flesh there. When he couldn’t win with words, he used his hands! Selene glared. Colton met her glare with a look that screamed, I’ve got you beat. He lifted her and set her back in her seat. He always had a way to tame her. Damn him. Fuming, Selene buckled back in. Three hours later, the helicopter dipped lower. From the wide-open sky, an isolated island spread into view. Hills kissed the sea, and tea terraces, flower fields, and orchards painted a picture too beautiful to be real. Qiu Jiu had found a place to rival Luoyuan Village and made himself a paradise. The chopper settled on sandy soil. The cabin door slid open, and they spotted a golf cart parked not far off. The young driver saw them too. He waved both hands at Selene, all excitement: “Hey, sis-in-law! Long time no see.”
