Chapter 7 Give Your Betrothal Gift To Us

  • After lunch, everyone chatted for a while, Abigail finally had the chance to speak to Julian. As Julian wanted to drink water, Annalise went to pour some for him. With a bright smile, Abigail said to Julian, “Jullan, can I get your WhatsApp number?”
  • “I’m sorry, but I’m a married man. I need to distance myself from you to avoid misunderstandings,” said Julian flatly.
  • Annalise, who was pouring water, almost burst into laughter.
  • She thought, “This man is hilarious! I can’t believe he has such good acting skills! It seems like the decision. to get married is correct. It has only been a few hours since we got the marriage certificate, and we’ve already pissed Abigail off multiple times. Just thinking of her contorted face makes me feel delightful. I don’t care whether others say I’m shallow or petty. I’m upset with her, so I won’t let her off so easily!”
  • “But Julian, you will be my brother-in-law soon. By then, wouldn’t we be a family? Why can’t we have each other’s contact numbers?” Inwardly, Abigail felt irritated. However, she still let go of her pride to get Julian’s WhatsApp number.
  • Abigail thought, “I will only have the chance to talk to Julian if I get his number. By conversing with him, he will get to know me!”
  • “A man should always be cautious of their sisters-in-law. Many people have commented about the relationship between a brother-in-law and a sister-in-law, I think there is a reason behind this. Some sisters-in-law really are shameless!” said Julian coldly. It was apparent that there was a hidden meaning. behind his words.
  • -Taken aback by Julian’s words, Abigail’s face fell as she glared at Annalise angrily.
  • Abigail pondered, “That bitch must have told him about the things that happened between Benjamin and me. She’s such a busybody!”
  • Meanwhile, Samuel smiled as he bid goodbye to Kent. “Mr. Barton, thank you for your hospitality. We’ll go home first. Let’s discuss the wedding matters on the phone.”
  • “Sure. Sure.” Kent stood up to send them off.
  • Annalise followed them to see the members of the Parks family off.
  • After the Parks family’s cars drove away, the Bartons returned to the house.
  • Immediately after entering the house, the atmosphere became weird.
  • While Annalise was walking upstairs, Kent shouted, “Anna!”
  • Annalise turned and stared at Kent.
  • “I’m sure you know about the marriage of convenience between the Parks family and the Barton family,” said Kent.
  • “So?” Annalise looked at Kent in amusement.
  • Kent continued, “The plan was always to have Julian and Abigail tie the knot. Even though you coincidentally met Julian at the hotel yesterday, you must let Abigail marry Julian. Therefore, you can’t take the betrothal gift. I want you to give it to Abigail now.”
  • “Uncle Kent, why didn’t you speak about this when the members of the Parks family were around earlier?” Annalise retorted.
  • “I don’t want to embarrass you.” Anger started to rise within Kent.
  • “Uncle Kent, you don’t have to worry about me!”
  • Infuriated, Kent questioned, “Are you planning to make the betrothal gift yours?”
  • “The betrothal gift is worth 300 million dollars. I can’t belleve Annalise wants it all for herself,” thought Kent. “The Parks family gave me the betrothal gift. What do you mean by making it mine?” Annalise thought Kent was being ridiculous.
  • “Oh, don’t you want your mother’s shares back?” Kent sounded stern.
  • “Are you threatening me?” asked Annalise.
  • “Am I? You are the one who took Abbie’s stuff and retained it!”
  • “Didn’t Abigail snatch Benjamin away from me? Aren’t they in love? Why are you accusing me of taking her stuff?”
  • Hearing that, Abigail raised her chin and said, “Yes. Before today, Benjamin and I loved each other. However, from now onward, I have decided to fulfill the marriage contract between Julian and me. Annalise, don’t think you can replace me by talking bad about me to Julian. We will go easy on you if you hand over the betrothal gift. If not, you will look bad when the Parks family makes you do it!”
  • “You don’t have a chance anymore!” replied Annalise.
  • “You are so confident… What?” As Abigail was about to humiliate Annalise, the former saw Annalise taking out her marriage certificate.
  • Immediately, she reached out and snatched it from Annalise. After opening it, Abigail saw Julian and Annalise’s names on it. Besides that, she could also see their photos. Enraged, Abigail wanted to tear the marriage certificate apart.
  • Annalise said, “Go on and tear it apart. I heard that we cannot get a divorce without it.”
  • “Argh!” Abigail was so furious that she threw the marriage certificate onto Annalise’s face.
  • Annalise dodged and caught the marriage certificate with two fingers.
  • After keeping the marriage certificate, Annalise stared at Kent. “Uncle Kent, I’m going to hold a wedding very soon. After the wedding, I’ll be moving to Jadeborough and staying there. Hence, we should deal with Moonlight Group’s shares soon. Please transfer the 70 percent shares to my name as soon as possible!”
  • “Are you ordering me?” Kent was upset.
  • He thought, “Great! This village girl merely lived in the city for a year. I can’t believe she has learned how to order me to do stuff. Moreover, I can’t believe she has the nerve to ask me for the 70 percent shares. Does she think I will let her be the company’s biggest shareholder after I’ve managed the place for so many years?”
  • “Of course, I’m not telling you what to do, Uncle Kent. I’m only reminding you. It’s time for you to give me back what Mom left for me.” All the while, Annalise was calm.
  • Previously, Annalise only thought that her uncle and his family were cruel and heartless. She didn’t want to make the situation awkward. Thus, she decided to give them enough time to fulfill her mother’s will.
  • However, after the incident with Benjamin and the Parks family, she was utterly disappointed with them.
  • Not only were they heartless, but also immoral, despicable, and disgusting.
  • Annalise mused, “At first, when they heard that Julian was 52 years old, they wanted to force me to marry him. Now that they realized Julian was a fine man, they immediately wanted Abigail to be with Julian. They only want things that will benefit them. I can’t believe they are shameless enough to take advantage of everything. Fortunately, Julian and I married by coincidence, and I’m not a country bumpkin like they have mentioned. If not, I’m sure they would continue to bully me! Ha! When Abigail thought Julian was an old and useless man, she immediately interfered with my relationship with Benjamin. Now, she wants to snatch. Julian from me. Does she even take me seriously? Yes, I’m from the countryside, but I’m not incapable. I know that Uncle Kent made me stay in the village because he was afraid that he wouldn’t be able to control me if I grew up in the city. Sadly, he didn’t know I had learned some other skills in the village.”
  • Kent was furious. “Annalise, you should know I’ve managed Moonlight Group for a long time. I’m the person who developed the company into a corporation that has a market value close to 1.5 billion dollars. Do you think it’s easy?”
  • “I’ve never said it’s easy. But didn’t Mom give you 30 percent of the company’s shares? Won’t you still benefit from them?” Annalise retorted.
  • “You!” Kent was at a loss for words.
  • “So, when do you plan to transfer the shares to me? Uncle Kent, I need your confirmation.”
  • “Over my dead body!”
  • “If that’s the case, I’ll let my lawyer contact you.”
  • “Get lost, you ungrateful bitch! Get out of my house!” Kent exploded in anger.
  • He pondered, “She isn’t willing to take out her betrothal gift. I can’t believe she wants 70 percent of the corporation’s share. That’s too much of her!”
  • “I’m sorry. You guys should be the ones leaving! Mom left this house for me too,” said Annalise flatly.
