Chapter 05

• *GARVIN*
• I am back home and the fear that I am filled with is beyond me, I have taken advantage of my wife for a very long time and I wouldn’t be surprised if today she just decides to be a totally different person.
• I look at the time again, she is supposed to be in today and I had suggested that I pick her up from the airport but she insisted that she would use a taxi. I really can’t put a finger to it but there was something in her voice when we talked that sounded off. Anyway I don’t blame her, I have taken her for a joy ride way too long that she has actually taken long to react to my nonsense.
• I slightly open the curtain when the gate opens and a black Mercedes drives in, I am not expecting anyone apart from Lee so I walk outside to see who it is.
• The driver’s door opens and a yellow bone man comes out, he goes to the passenger’s seat and opens the door. Surprisingly Lee is the one coming out, she is wearing these little clothes that are exposing her well-toned legs. I don’t know if I just haven’t paid attention to her in a while or maybe the trip did her good.
• Her hair has been dyed to blond from its original brown and she is wearing it straight instead of curly. If anything she is looking really amazing but this is not the kind of image I am accustomed to.
• ‘Thank you so much Frank.’ She says to the man with a huge smile
• ‘You know I got your back anytime boo.’ He says giving her a tight hhu
• She has seen me, but behaving as if I am not even present. When they are done talking, he helps with removing her bags from the vehicle.
• ‘Drive safely.’ She says after he gets back in the car, he winks at her before driving off.
• ‘Hi’ She says dryly to me
• ‘Hi’ I respond shocked at the attitude
• ‘Will you help me with the bags or you just want to stand here?’ she asks scowling at me.
• It takes a minute for me to process what is happening because I know that Lee would never talk to me like this.
• ‘I will help.’ I say watching her walk into the house
• I help with the bags and take them to the room, by the time I am done carrying all three suitcases, she has already gone in the bathroom and is bathing.
• I go and set the table and tell myself I will ask her about the man after she has had her dinner, but what is surprising is that I wait an hour and she is not out of the bedroom.
• When she doesn’t show up, I was concerned and went upstairs to check on her but after I have eaten.
• Later I decided to go to the room and i am surprised to find her sleeping. Instead of waking her up or putting up a fight I decide to sleep too.
• The next morning when I wake up she is still fast asleep, this is someone who is supposed to prepare me for work and here she is.
• I get up, take a bath in hopes that she would have woken up and ironed my clothes but she is still fast asleep.
• ‘Lee.’ I call her softly
• ‘Lee.’ I call again when she doesn’t respond
• ‘HayLee!’
• ‘What?’ she yells looking at me and I am almost thinking she has lost her mind
• ‘What Garvin?’ she asks when I don’t respond
• ‘What time is this?’
• ‘You just roughly woke me up how am I supposed to know?’
• I sigh
• ‘This is thirty minutes past seven.’
• ‘So?’
• ‘Are you okay?’ I ask
• ‘Garvin just tell me what you want to say because I still want to sleep.’ She says
• ‘I need my clothes ironed and my breakfast prepared.’ I say calmly
• ‘That is why you woke me up?’
• ‘Yes that is why I woke you up.’
• ‘Please tell Nsama to do all that, I am still sleepy.’ She says putting the bed cover over her head
• ‘You know what, I will let this go only because you just got back from your trip, but I hope by the time I am back this nonsense would have stopped. Because God knows this is a behavior I won’t tolerate.’
• She doesn’t even bother to respond, I iron my clothes roughly and head to work. Luckily there are no serious patients that I have to attend to because I don’t know if I would have been able to attend to them in this state and the day drags by and by the time it was 1PM, I was already bored to the born.
• Another day I would have gone to see Cynthia but Lee’s behavior has put me off so I need to go home and sort out the mess.
• ‘Good afternoon uncle.’ Nsama greets when I get home
• ‘Good afternoon.’ I respond unfastening my tie
• ‘Is your aunty around?’
• ‘She left around 10 and told me not to count her for lunch.’
• ‘Did she say where she was going?’
• ‘No she didn’t.’
• ‘Okay set the table whilst I take a quick bath.’
• She stands there without saying anything.
• ‘Did you hear what I said?’
• ‘Unfortunately Aunty only asked me to cook my food.’
• ‘She did what?’
• ‘She asked me to..’
• ‘I heard you.’ I say cutting her off
• I furiously go to the bedroom and try to call Lee’s line but it goes unanswered four times.
• I take a bath and ask Nsama to prepare me a sandwich which I eat in frustration, I haven’t stopped looking at the time until Lee finally shows up at 6PM.
• She is clad in a short white dress and pink heels, I am so mad even looking at me is just getting the best of me.
• ‘I was trying your line but you didn’t pick up.’
• ‘You were trying to blow up my phone.’ She corrects taking off her clothes
• ‘Excuse me?’
• ‘Garvin you called four times, are you telling me I didn’t see the first missed call notification? Why would you honestly call me four times if not to blow off my phone?’ She asks now totally nude
• I try to look away but I can’t, she has definitely been working out and now all my resolve gone.
• ‘You won’t even ask why I was calling you?’
• She laughs
• ‘Garvin I have had a long day I don’t have time for your drama.’
• ‘Wow, what has happened to you?’
• ‘Are you sure you want to have this conversation right now?’ She asks looking at me
• I want to respond but my phone rings
• ‘Yeah right! Go ahead and pick up the call, your girlfriend is calling. I bet you are excited to hear from her.’ She says walking into the bathroom leaving me there in shock
• ..
