• Her eyebrows rose and she smirked. “I don’t think that’s true. He wouldn’t have agreed to this if he did. Trust me. Juri could have ordered him but if Marek said no, Juri wouldn’t have forced it.”
• “But he seems the type to do anything for his family. If your Vor told him to do something, he would. Even if it was to fall on a sword.”
• She hummed. “You may be right. But Marek is probably one of the few with a moral compass that far exceeds ours.” Her thumb brushed my cheek. “Don’t be so quick to write him off. I know people like us are rarely given the chance to love. We do, however, get to have lifelong friends.”
