Chapter 383 How About Drawing Lots
- “Cousin Dominick!” Wang Harvey waved at Wang Dominick with a grin. “Hey, little cousin, you made it.” Dominick smiled back. Dominick was part of the Wang family too, but only a distant branch—the thinnest twig. Still, he’d always treated Harvey well since they were kids, so Harvey thought of him first. “So this is Eastspeech One? Damn, that’s a beast!” Harvey eyed the private jet stamped with the Eastspeech Ventures logo and nodded, satisfied. “Doesn’t Uncle Wendt already have a private jet? Why’d he get another one?” Dominick scratched his head, baffled. “It’s not my dad’s. It’s my Dominic’s plane. The flight attendants I asked you to line up—those are the ones behind you, right?” Harvey asked. “Hurry up and greet Mr. Wendt!” Dominick was surprised, sure, but he still spoke up. He knew Harvey’s temper—this guy never bowed to anyone. If even Harvey called someone big brother, then whoever that was had to be one tough customer. “Good day, Mr. Wendt!” A bunch of girls bent at the waist to greet the three—Qin Feng, Harvey, and the chubby Roy. They all looked a little deflated. They’d thought their boss would be a handsome young man. Guess that fantasy died quick. “Dom doesn’t care about stuff like this anyway. We’re picking thirty, right? Ten each,” Harvey said, laughing at Qin Feng and Roy. “Works for me. How are we picking?” Qin Feng asked, curious. “They all look about the same… Why don’t we draw lots?” Roy pouted his lips and muttered. “Great idea. Since when did you get smart, Fatty?” Qin Feng rapped Roy lightly on the head. Hearing that, the girls got nervous. Plenty of them were confident they’d be chosen—looks, talent, the whole package. Yan Mo was one of those. But drawing lots? That threw everything into chaos. The girls who weren’t so stunning felt a sneaky rush of relief. Competing head-on with the cream of the crop? No chance. Yan Mo prayed hard. No matter what, she had to be picked. She had no other choice left. “Zhang Xiaomo!” “Qiu Xiuyuan!” … Very soon, Harvey and Roy had picked their ten. Some grinned like they’d won the lottery. The ones left out were breathing hard. Fewer slots meant slimmer chances. Yan Mo pressed her index fingers together against her chest, whispering to herself, “Pick me. Please pick me.” “My turn,” Qin Feng said, smiling as he reached into the box. “Liu Meng.” … “Luo Jinxuan.” When the last name was called, Yan Mo still hadn’t heard hers. She exhaled and shook her head, forcing a bitter smile. The girls who weren’t picked started making a scene—whining, fussing, stomping. Qin Feng and the guys had seen more than their share of women pulling stunts. They didn’t even blink. “Qin Feng, look.” Harvey pointed to a figure slipping away in the distance. Following his finger, the two of them saw Yan Mo’s lonely silhouette. That got their attention. “You mean her? I remember her too,” Dominick said, checking where Harvey was pointing. “Out of all these girls, you remember that one?” Qin Feng asked, intrigued. “She’s got it rough. Both her parents are seriously ill, bedridden. She’s outstanding in every way, but still didn’t get picked. Guess that’s just fate.” Dominick sighed. “Qin Feng, go check on her,” Harvey said. Once airport security cleared out the troublemakers, Harvey sat down. “Congrats to everyone who made the cut. As a thank-you for your hard work, I’ve decided that if you stay for more than three years, your salary will double on top of the base.” “Five million already crushes what commercial flight attendants make. Double that? That’s insane benefits!” “Nope. I’m dumping my boyfriend. He doesn’t deserve a million-a-year queen like me.” … “From now on, you’re part of Eastspeech Ventures too. Thing is, everyone’s got their specialty. What you’ll do is be ready to fly, twenty-four-seven,” Harvey said, surveying the girls with satisfaction. “And if the boss has special requests, you meet them. No questions asked,” Roy added. “Ten million a year? I’ll do anything.” “Pay matches the grind. Taking the money means we give what’s needed.” These girls weren’t dumb. Nobody pays that kind of cash for nothing. Under a streetlight, Yan Mo stood alone, clutching her phone. “Xiao Mo, how’s the new job in the city right after graduation? Everything okay at home?” “Dad, don’t worry. I found a job in North River City. I’m a flight attendant for a private boss. Tomorrow I’ll ask for an advance and send money home.” Yan Mo’s voice wavered, eyes going red. “Don’t stress about the money. Even if I get treated, I don’t have many years left. Why waste all that effort?” Her father coughed hard on the other end. “Dad, please. If I earn money, it’s for your treatment.” Yan Mo hung up, and all the pent-up misery broke loose. She curled up in a corner and sobbed quietly. “Is it worth breaking yourself like this?” Qin Feng walked over, having seen everything from a distance. “You’re… the boss from earlier.” Yan Mo scrambled to her feet, wiping her tears with her sleeve. “Start tomorrow. Here’s some cash. Get your parents treated first.” Qin Feng slipped a bank card into her hand. She was a good girl. If he weren’t already with Chuxia, he might’ve fallen for her. No way was he letting her go to waste, though. He’d talk to Maniac Newman and set this up right, he thought. “Thank you. Thank you!” Yan Mo bowed to Qin Feng again and again, tears streaming in gratitude.
