Chapter 5 Dragged Into His Darkness
- CAMILLE
- Another week of failure gone.
- Trying to impress him.
- Why the hell was he like that?
- His heart was like stone.
- Nothing about me turned him on.
- Or he should at least look at my side.
- I am getting tired. Tired of trying. Tired of changing him.
- But I shouldn't give up, right?
- Because it means I will be toying with my family life.
- I sighed, leaning back in the chair where I sat at my restaurant. Customers are coming in but my mind felt like it was floating away. My brother had left for training leaving me and my staff to handle this place.
- “Ma’am, can I go and buy the ingredients now?” Faye’s voice floated in my foggy thoughts.
- That was the third time she had asked.
- She touched me a little, and I jumped, my eyes widening until they landed on her round almond eyes. I sighed seeing it was her.
- Oh God!
- Please help me.
- “Yes…What were you saying?” I muttered, my heart still racing.
- “Sorry, ma, I was asking if I can go to the market and get the ingredients,” she repeated, pushing forward the list of what we needed to restock.
- I collected it, my eyes scanning the items, but my brain didn't register a thing. I stood up, moving away from her without knowing again.
- “Ma, you didn't respond,” I stopped looking at her as she turned, her raven black hair dropped down her back.
- “Don't worry, I will get it myself,” her almond eyes raised, her light peach lips parted.
- She's pretty.
- “Ah…What happened ma? Have I offended you ma?” Her voice shook with fear.
- Hell no!
- I moved closer to her, forcing a small smile, “No, silly you. I need some fresh air,” I said as I ruffled her hair slightly.
- And she relaxed, smiled a bit, and nodded. She thought I would fire her.
- I grabbed my bag.
- I just wanted to walk for a while. To breathe. I didn't have a close friend, just my customers and staff.
- I wanted to release my thoughts into the air, but the noise in the restaurant was not even helping; it was rather making my chest tighter.
- Drane stopped me on the way, “Ma’am, where should we tell Mr Black that you went?”
- Oh! I have forgotten about this man. He had been wooing me for months now, and wanted to marry me.
- “Give him my personal line. I am going to the market,” his green eyes flickered from me to Faye instantly.
- “Faye?!” He shouted, scaring some of the customers, and I pulled him by his shirt.
- “What the hell Drane? You want me to be deaf?” He bowed down with a serious face.
- “I am so sorry ma, whatever she did. I will make sure I punish her,” he raised his head now facing Faye, who approached slowly.
- “She will go to the market ma,” I laughed, genuinely. Loud.
- Seriously?
- This is what I wanted!
- A genuine laugh.
- “I told her I am going, Drane.” I brushed past him, and his body stumbled into Faye, who pushed him back. These two needed their own soap opera.
- I walked out of my restaurant, the sun kissed my skin as I walked down the street. Inhaling the fresh air of the atmosphere. I didn't take my car along, but it wasn't a long walk.
- I entered the shopping mall after a few minutes, and my eyes caught on someone as I headed to the food section.
- Jace.
- What the hell was he doing here?
- Does he cook now?
- And who is that lady standing with him? All I saw was her light brown hair facing me.
- I ignored them.
- I grabbed onions. Tomatoes. Spicy ingredients. Bell peppers. Before I knew it, the trolley was full. Way more than I could carry.
- I should have bought my car, I wasn't thinking straight.
- My phone rang, and I opened my bag, picking it up.
- Unknown number?
- “Excuse me,” I said to the girl at the counter, stepping outside.
- Who could it be?
- “Hello?”
- No response.
- “Hello? Who is this?”
- Again. No response.
- I hissed, cutting the call. As I turned to enter the hall, a loud echo cracked through the air.
- Pop!
- My heart skipped.
- That was a gun.
- In broad daylight?
- I tried to summon up my courage to continue walking, but not until I was stopped by many bikers running after a man on a bike.
- His speed was mad, they ran after him too like mad people.
- I tried to ignore it, but…
- “Is that not Klaus?”
- “Are they going to kill him?”
- My heart raced as I walked through the corners they passed. Luckily for me, they had stopped not too far.
- I heard another loud noise.
- Scream followed.
- I screamed too, the sound of the gun was too loud as if it was directed at me.
- Eyes turned.
- Now, I am scared.
- I was so stupid to have followed them. I closed my eyes.
- “What are you doing here, Peach?” I heard a familiar voice, opened my sepia blue eyes quickly, and hugged him tightly. I couldn't help it.
- I thought it was him.
- I was so scared.
- My body pressed against a cold metal, I lose my arms from his neck as I looked down, seeing it was…
- A gun.
- I swallowed hard, looking at his eyes.
- “I said. What are you doing here?” His voice was cold and harsh.
- “Were you stalking me?” He grabbed my shoulder, shaking me. My voice broke.
- I shook my head continuously, and tears had already gathered in my eyes.
- He looked scary right now.
- “No…no…no. I wasn't…I,” I stammered.
- “Who is this boss? What courage does she have to follow us?” A voice spat behind him.
- I glanced at the pale-looking hungry man.
- “Let's just end her, next time she won't poke her nose into matters that don't concern her,” another voice said, earning a stupid laugh from the rest.
- “Yay! It will teach her a lesson!” Another voice barked.
- What?
- Is this their mentality? I hissed in my head.
- Bunch of killers. Monsters. That's what they are.
- I looked at Klaus, begging him with my eyes not to listen to them.
- “It wasn't like…I swear…”
- “Shut the fuck up!” He growls moving away from me, “Carry her!”
- “No…no…no…Klaus, don't get me wrong. It wasn't like that, please listen to me,” I rushed to him, but he pushed so hard, I hit the ground.
- Is this how wicked he is?
- Two bikers grabbed both my arms, I fought, kicked one, and slapped the other.
- I was just playing, right?
- Because they're up to twenty bikers here. Another set came to me, one grabbed my hair, and I shouted in pain, “Leave me alone!”
- The other grabbed my arms, tying them to my back.
- “Klaus! Klaus! Listen to me!” I screamed.
- A cloth was shoved into my mouth forcefully. Klaus walked to the dead man he had just killed.
- Tears rolled down my cheeks.
- Why does he have to kill him?
- Whatever he might have done, he isn't worth dying for.
- For a moment, I forgot about myself.
- I was hoisted on a bike like a sack, another man sat at my back to prevent me from doing my stupid act.
- I couldn't move. I couldn't scream.
- Where was he taking me? Is this how he is going to end me too?
- What really turned him into a monster that made him…not to care at all?
