- Ben grabbed his arm. “Leave her alone, man!” His voice cracked through the room, sharp and desperate. Klaus’s grip on me vanished, only for his fist to swing into Ben’s face.
- The sound of the hit was ugly, meaty and raw. I collapsed onto the floor, sucking in air like I hadn’t breathed in years. Ben groaned, spitting blood, red spilling down his chin in messy rivulets.
