Chapter 10 Bumping Into Him

  • Early the next morning, Edward took breakfast and went to the hospital to accompany his mother.
  • His mother's condition was improving day by day, and it wouldn't be long before she could be discharged and return home to recuperate.
  • Thanks to Mr. Murphy's connections, Edward's mother received meticulous care at the hospital, which put Edward at ease.
  • Next, it was time to prepare to transform the West City shantytown.
  • This was his first time truly stepping onto the stage and taking charge of a project.
  • Although he was in charge of Paramount Real Estate's business in the past, Mr. Lester took credit.
  • And this time, he had to turn around the shantytown redevelopment project and restore Paramount Real Estate's reputation.
  • More importantly, he wanted to show his abilities to that person!
  • After being abandoned and disappointed for over twenty years, there was suddenly an intention to mend the broken relationship.
  • The money Mr. Murphy gave him indeed solved his pressing financial problems.
  • But Edward was clear that while money was important and solved his urgent problems, there were some things that money couldn't possibly make up for.
  • Ultimately, that father he had never met was still making a transaction with him.
  • If he succeeded, he could bring his mother back to that person's family, take over everything, and surround his mother with honour and glory.
  • If he failed, he and his mother would remain as they always were, and that father might as well have never existed.
  • The only difference, perhaps, would be the golden Bauhinia Card in his pocket.
  • He had relied on his mother for over twenty years, and she had sacrificed everything for him. Even if he didn't think about himself, he had to seize the glory that rightfully belonged to his mother.
  • Edward walked slowly out of the hospital, his mind pondering the details of the shantytown redevelopment project.
  • Meanwhile, outside the hospital, the traffic was congested on the road.
  • In his Audi A4, Randy stared at the unmoving traffic, frustrated, and slammed his hand on the steering wheel.
  • "D*mn it! What are these idiots doing? Driving these junk cars worth just over thousands, where do they get the nerve to block the road?"
  • Beatrice, sitting in the passenger seat, frowned slightly. "Randy, do you have road rage? What's wrong with people driving cars worth just over thousands?"
  • "I'm just worried you'll be late for work, Beatrice."
  • Randy smiled ingratiatingly and changed the subject. "By the way, Beatrice, last night when I asked you to play games with me, you said you would shower. But you didn't come online afterwards. Did you know that I was in the game ... "
  • "Could you be more mature?" Beatrice rolled her eyes and scolded, "I was too tired last night. I went to bed right after taking a shower."
  • In fact, she was upset last night because Edward didn't reply to her messages, so she wasn't in the mood to pay attention to Randy.
  • Of course, she couldn't possibly tell Randy about this sort of thing.
  • Randy furrowed his brows, looking dissatisfied. "What's going on at your bank? You're just a teller, and they've got you so worn out. Didn't you pull an all-nighter just a week ago?"
  • Beatrice's expression changed suddenly. She avoided Randy's gaze, her eyes flickering as she lowered her head, afraid that he might discover something.
  • However, in Randy's eyes, he genuinely believed that Beatrice was just tired.
  • Randy said tenderly, "It's okay, Beatrice. In a week, my family will have gathered the dowry, and we can get engaged. After we get married, you don't have to work if you find work tiring."
  • "Will you support me if I don't work?" Beatrice shot Randy a sideways glance.
  • Randy's voice caught. He chuckled awkwardly and said, "I'll support you. You're my wife, after all!"
  • "What will you use to support me?" Beatrice asked.
  • Randy waved his hand. "Of course, it's Olivia. Don't worry. Olivia divorced that useless brother-in-law of mine. My mom is already looking for a wealthy guy for her. She won't have to worry about money in the future."
  • Beatrice's eyebrows furrowed even tighter. She suddenly felt a bit repulsed by Randy.
  • When Randy said this, he didn't seem ashamed at all. How did he manage to say it so matter-of-factly?
  • Is he living off his mom's money and still acting like he's in the right?
  • She even felt a sense of guilt towards Olivia.
  • Taking a deep breath, Beatrice asked in a strange tone, "What did Olivia do wrong?"
  • "Isn't this expected? She's my sister. I'm marrying you to carry on our family line. She should help me," Randy said matter-of-factly.
  • This made Beatrice even more angry. Without the engagement, she would have felt like slapping Randy.
  • Because of her marriage to Randy, not only did Olivia divorce, but it also made Randy's brother-in-law the unlucky one.
  • She suddenly felt some sympathy for that man named Edward. He seemed really unfairly treated.
  • Thinking of Edward, Beatrice's eyes flashed with a hint of resentment.
  • Glancing sideways at Randy, Beatrice asked mischievously, "Randy, does your former brother-in-law, Edward, really have no money?"
  • "Pfft ... He's just an ugly duckling. What money could he possibly have?" Randy rolled his eyes. "Why are you asking about this again?"
  • Beatrice shook her head, realising she was driving herself crazy thinking about that man.
  • The name "Edward" is so common. How did I misinterpret things?
  • She explained, "Just a week ago, a customer named Edward Raine came to the bank and used a bank card I didn't recognise to withdraw money. It left a strong impression on me. So when you mentioned your former brother-in-law's name was also Edward Raine, I wanted to ask."
  • "Hahaha ... Beatrice, what are you thinking? How could that be possible?"
  • Randy laughed heartily, then said disdainfully, "Edward is just a classic ugly duckling, all talk and no action. He has some accomplishments, such as being the vice president of Paramount Real Estate. But all the money he earns goes to his sick mother in the hospital. He might have a little money, but compared to me, he is nothing!"
  • His sick mother?
  • Beatrice's body trembled, suddenly remembering the message Edward had replied to her last night.
  • Is this ... just a coincidence?
  • Randy continued to mock, "But Beatrice, the Edward you encountered seems quite impressive. He used a bank card, even if you didn't recognise him. He must be quite wealthy, right? My useless former brother-in-law was also named Edward. Why is fate so unfair?"
  • Suddenly, Randy caught a glimpse of a familiar figure at the entrance of Orilorn Hospital from the corner of his eye.
  • He smirked disdainfully and said to Beatrice, "By the way, Beatrice, you haven't met my useless former brother-in-law yet, have you? What a coincidence. Let me introduce you to him to see if he looks like a wealthy man."
  • With that, he suddenly jerked the steering wheel.
  • The Audi car emerged from the traffic and drove into the gates of Orilorn Hospital.
  • Beatrice was startled by the sudden movement and screamed, "Randy, are you crazy? Driving like this on the main road, are you trying to get us killed?"
  • Screech!
  • The Audi blocked Edward's path.
  • Edward, who thought deeply about the slum renovation project, abruptly stopped. He frowned slightly, feeling a chill.
  • Almost!
  • If he hadn't stopped in time, the car would have swept past and knocked him over!
  • "Randy?"
  • Edward glared ahead and saw Randy stepping out of the car. He immediately spoke in a cold voice, "Are you trying to kill someone?"
  • "Hahaha ... Edward, just kidding, did I scare you? Sorry about that, sorry," Randy said nonchalantly, laughing.
  • Just kidding?
  • Edward's expression turned completely cold. "Is playing with someone's life a joke to you?"
  • Randy didn't care about Edward's feelings. He pointed towards Orilorn Hospital and asked, "So ... back to see your mom again?"
  • "Yeah," Edward replied coldly.
  • "Her condition must be quite serious now, isn't it?"
  • Randy chuckled and shrugged. "Well, Edward, you're at least my former brother-in-law. Let me give you some advice. Your mom is on her deathbed, and you're just throwing money into the hospital, prolonging her suffering. You might let her go peacefully instead of ending up with nothing."
  • Click!
  • Edward clenched his fists tightly, his knuckles cracking audibly.
  • Meanwhile, Beatrice in the Audi had long been stunned into silence.
  • Her eyes widened in disbelief, staring at the ice-cold face as if struck by a heavy hammer. It was the same as the face in her memory.
  • She covered her mouth with trembling hands, almost screaming out loud.
  • It's really him ... that man!
