Chapter 6 Leave After Healing Mason

  • Clara headed to the pharmacy to buy the herbs she needed and a pot for brewing medicine. However, she hadn't figured out how to brew the medicine without Sandra and the others noticing, fearing they would tell Tyler.
  • As she walked with her head down, someone suddenly blocked her path and snatched the medicine bag from her hands.
  • It was Leslie, flipping through Clara's medicine bag.
  • Leslie always enjoyed taking things from Clara. Whenever Clara had something nice, Leslie would grab it, like the emerald pendant hanging around her neck at that moment.
  • Clara was momentarily lost in thought. The emerald pendant was a gift from Mason, her most prized possession.
  • But at the Davises', she had no one to rely on. Plus, her mom had told her before she passed away that she had to endure everything to protect herself. So she had to let Leslie take the pendant.
  • Seeing Clara's gaze fixed on the emerald pendant, Leslie coldly snorted, "Stop staring; it's not yours. Hey, mute girl, let me ask you: Can you really cure Mason's eyes?"
  • Clara snatched back the medicine bag and clutched it tightly to her chest, refusing to respond.
  • Leslie sneered, "You don't even have to speak. I can see through you; you can never fool me."
  • Clara stared at Leslie, unconsciously hiding the medicine bag behind her back.
  • "What's the point of hiding from me now? You're not guarding against me, but Tyler's informants. If they find out, do you think there's still a chance to cure Mason's eyes?"
  • Leslie grabbed Clara's wrist as she approached. "Mute girl, I can help you. If we team up, I'll handle those informants, and you just need to help me heal Mason the best you can."
  • Clara heard Leslie offering help willingly, and her dim eyes suddenly brightened.
  • She knew that with Leslie's help, they could deceive the informants and cure Mason, saving her a lot of trouble.
  • "But I have one condition: Once Mason's eyes are healed, you have to disappear and never return. From then on, I'll publicly declare that I'm the one who healed him."
  • Leslie's voice echoed.
  • I've indeed overestimated Leslie. How could the always selfish Leslie help me for no reason?
  • Clara shook off Leslie's hand. There was no room for negotiation in this matter.
  • "Mute girl, haven't you always wanted to inherit your grandfather's clinic? If you agree to my terms, I'll persuade my dad to let you into the clinic!"
  • Clara's grandfather had founded the clinic; it was the only legacy he left for her mother, along with all his hard work.
  • But after her mother's death, the clinic was seized by Henry. Its reputation had been declining ever since!
  • Clara's sole wish was to reclaim the clinic and revive its reputation and prestige.
  • She couldn't let her grandfather and mother's legacy fall into the wrong hands.
  • So, when she heard Leslie's proposal, she hesitated and halted in her tracks.
  • "I only let you marry Mason for me. Do you really think you own the title of Mrs. Smith? Everyone knows that Mason only loves me. Mute girl, say, what if his eyes are truly healed? When he sees that you've replaced me and married him, what will his reaction be?"
  • Leslie knew Clara too well. Since childhood, Clara had always been a pushover, letting Leslie have her way without daring to resist.
  • Now, using Clara's cherished clinic as leverage, Leslie didn't think Clara could refuse.
  • Clara hung her head low, her hand trembling as she held the medicine bag.
  • It's true. Even now, Mason only loves Leslie.
  • And I'm just a stand-in.
  • Leslie nudged her shoulder. "Stop hesitating, mute girl. Don't you know? Under my dad's management, the clinic is about to go bankrupt and be bought out. If you agree to my terms, I can plead with them. Can you bear to see the thing your grandfather and mother guarded their whole lives just disappear like that?"
  • What?
  • The clinic's going to be bought out?
  • Clara looked up in shock. How could they do this?!
  • "I've said all the nice things I can. If you still stick to your own ideas, fine. I won't force you anymore. Just wait a week, and watch the clinic vanish!"
  • Leslie intentionally put on a stern face and turned to leave.
  • But before she could step out, her sleeve was grabbed, and she sneered in secret.
  • Nevertheless, she turned back with a composed face. "Well, have you made up your mind? Will you agree or not?"
  • Clara bit her lip and nodded.
  • She had to save the clinic and cure Mason. Leslie was right; he didn't love her now, and he wouldn't in the future either.
  • Carrying the medicine bag, Clara walked past Leslie, who called out to her again, "By the way, mute girl, if Mason asks why you're not wearing the emerald pendant, come up with an excuse."
  • Back in the house, Clara busied herself brewing the medicine. Sandra and George had taken Leslie's money, so they acted like they hadn't seen a thing and let Clara do her thing.
  • After a busy afternoon, Clara finished brewing the medicine and carefully carried it upstairs.
  • The medicine was bitter, so she bought some candies she liked along with the herbs. She put one in Mason's mouth and made him drink the medicine.
  • After giving him the medicine, she performed needle treatment. She sterilised the silver needles her grandfather had passed down to her with alcohol and helped Mason lie down on the bed for the treatment.
  • Having dated Leslie for half a year, Mason never knew she was so skilled in medicine.
  • When Clara administered the first needle, Mason could feel it. It was clean and sharp, with barely any pain.
  • After Clara finished inserting the needles on Mason, Matt called.
  • He told Mason over the phone, "Mr. Smith, Old Mr. Smith's funeral will be held tomorrow at 10:00 AM in Memorial Garden."
  • "Got it." Mason hung up the phone and reached out to Clara. "Leslie, will you accompany me to see my grandfather off tomorrow?"
  • Clara nodded vigorously.
  • The next morning, while Sandra was out shopping and George was lying in the room watching TV, Clara helped Mason sneak out of the villa.
  • After more than an hour's drive, they finally arrived at the cemetery. As soon as they got out of the car, it started raining. Raindrops sprinkled on Clara's nose, sending chills down her spine.
  • She tiptoed to cover Mason's head with the black umbrella in her hand.
  • Matt was waiting for them at the entrance of the cemetery, his eyes red from crying.
  • "Mr. Smith," he called out with his hoarse voice. "Old Mr. Smith has been buried. Tyler brought a priest to the cemetery."
  • "You can leave." Mason's hand pressed on Matt's shoulder. "It's not convenient for you to stay here."
  • "Mr. Smith ... " Matt looked back. "If you go over, Tyler will—"
  • "Don't worry about it." Mason held Clara's hand with one hand and leaned on his cane, heading into the cemetery.
