Chapter 8 Let My Woman Get Hurt

  • Clara lingered in the car, sipping the hot tea Matt had made, until she spotted Mason emerging from the graveyard, rain beating down on him.
  • Matt wanted to help Mason, but Clara stopped him.
  • Despite Mason's blindness, he could navigate back to the car alone; he didn't require aid.
  • When they returned to the mansion, George and Sandra had already noticed their absence and were pacing anxiously.
  • When they saw Mason and Clara returning drenched, they breathed a sigh of relief.
  • They didn't know how they would explain to Tyler if something had happened.
  • Sandra, frustrated, demanded, "Where were you? Do you think this is a vacation home? I went out for groceries, and ... "
  • Before she finished, Mason's gaze turned towards her voice.
  • Despite knowing he couldn't see, Sandra fell silent.
  • Clara guided Mason upstairs, followed by Matt, who directed Sandra and George to prepare a nourishing soup.
  • Clara had given him the prescription earlier.
  • George grumbled, "A blind man making so many requests."
  • Sandra shared a glance with him.
  • When Leslie had given her money, she found out that Clara was treating Mason. She feared if Mason regained his sight and regained power in the Smiths, she'd have a hard time.
  • In this world, nothing was certain.
  • Reluctant, Sandra took the recipe from Matt. "Fine, I'll start making it soon."
  • In the room, Clara hurried to fill the bathtub and added some warming herbs. She signalled to Matt to help Mason bathe.
  • Mason held Clara's hand. "You should shower first."
  • Clara declined, and Mason gently insisted, "Just do as I say. Who will take care of me if you fall sick?"
  • Finally, Clara entered the bathroom. Matt helped Mason change, sighing. "Mr. Smith, I'm glad Mrs. Smith is with you at a time like this."
  • "Yeah," Mason murmured, "I'm glad too."
  • "I saw Mrs. Smith writing a long note about your treatment; it's dozens of pages long. She'll surely cure you."
  • Mason nodded. "You can leave now."
  • After Clara finished bathing, she tended to Mason's wounds, changed his clothes, and proceeded to administer needle treatment and medication.
  • The herbal-soaked gauze felt cool and soothing on Mason's eyes, with a pleasant scent.
  • The needle treatment was a ten-day course, and Clara believed it would start showing results within two weeks.
  • As Clara was about to brew herbal medicine downstairs, Mason grabbed her hand.
  • "Leslie, there's something in the brown boots under the bed. Go get it."
  • Clara closed the windows, retrieved a brown boot, and took out a delicate wooden box from inside.
  • She didn't look but simply handed it to Mason. Mason said, "This is my grandfather's seal. Find a safe place to hide it, and don't tell anyone."
  • Isn't this what Tyler asked Mason for in the graveyard?
  • Clara understood the importance of the seal. He must have a lot of faith in me to entrust me with something so significant.
  • She tightly squeezed Mason's hand, indicating that she would definitely hide the item securely.
  • She first hid the seal in her medicine box, planning to find a better hiding spot when she went out to buy herbs tomorrow.
  • While brewing medicine for Mason, she secretly applied medication to her forehead in the kitchen. She hadn't told Mason about her injury; she didn't want him to feel any more upset.
  • After she prepared the medicine and was bringing it upstairs, Sandra, leaning on the railing, watched Clara's back and couldn't help but mutter in confusion, "Why put in so much effort, knowing that someone else will take credit? There are so many idiots nowadays."
  • Clara heard it and pursed her lips, using her elbow to push open the door.
  • How could people like Sandra understand her love for Mason?
  • She had loved him for so many years, admiring him since childhood. If she could, she would gladly trade her eyes for his, let alone do these things for him.
  • She cooled the medicine and fed it to Mason. As she watched him drink it without hesitation, his face showing no sign of bitterness, tears involuntarily filled Clara's eyes.
  • Her tears slipped and fell onto the back of Mason's hand.
  • He immediately sensed it and reached out to touch Clara's cheek.
  • "Leslie, what's wrong? Why are you crying?"
  • Clara immediately shook her head to indicate that she was fine. But Mason's hand accidentally touched her injured forehead, which was swollen and smeared with sticky ointment.
  • Clara couldn't help but gasp in pain. Mason hurriedly asked, "Are you hurt? Why didn't you tell me? I can't believe Matt lied to me!"
  • Clara couldn't tell him that she had instructed Matt not to say anything. She shook her head and waved her hand, but unfortunately, Mason couldn't see it.
  • Suddenly, Mason pulled Clara into his arms and pressed his lips to the wound on Clara's forehead.
  • It was all sticky with ointment, and Clara tried to avoid it, but Mason had already kissed it.
  • His lips were cool and soft, and Clara felt they were more effective than her medicine; the pain immediately subsided.
  • Mason could sense that her forehead wound was quite serious. He murmured anxiously, "I can't even protect my own woman. Leslie, I've let you get hurt."
  • Clara shook her head. She was willing to do anything to be by his side, let alone withstand some rain and torture.
  • When Mason raised his head again, Clara was surprised to find his eyes filled with tears, shimmering like deep lakes.
  • His eyes are stunning. Clara cupped his face in her hands.
  • She remembered the first time she saw Mason in her grandfather's clinic when he was just a teenager.
  • At that moment, Clara wondered how someone's eyes could be so beautiful.
  • They were like stars, the brightest ones in the starry sky.
  • She told herself that she must restore the radiance in Mason's eyes and bring back the most dazzling stars.
  • Suddenly, Mason picked Clara up and said, "When I still can't see, will you be my eyes? Let me know when we get to the bed."
  • Clara hugged his neck tightly, resting her head against his chest, nodding.
  • Mason gently laid her on the bed, his fingers tracing her smooth forehead down to her straight nose and soft lips.
  • Clara stared at Mason in front of her, her eyes filled with affection. She knew that Mason's deep affection at this moment was not for her, but for Leslie in his heart.
  • But it didn't matter.
  • As long as she was by his side at this moment, it was enough.
  • Clara raised her head and kissed Mason's cold lips.
