Chapter 28 The Mysterious Son-in-law

• Damien, Celeste, and Eleanor returned home in silence. The taxi they took pulled up slowly in front of the house, as if it understood the gloomy mood of its passengers. Celeste helped her mom out of the car while Damien stayed in his seat, his face unreadable.
• As soon as they stepped into the house, George appeared from the living room, looking worried. But his concern quickly turned into shock and anger when he saw Eleanor’s swollen face and the red mark on her cheek.
• “What happened?” George asked, his voice shaking. His eyes darted toward Damien with suspicion. “Why are you three coming home together? What happened to your mother-in-law? Did you cause trouble for her?”
