Chapter 4 The Wrong Girl Found
- The promotion came like lightning in a clear sky.
- ''Your salary will be increased to fifty thousand " . Sharon chipped in.
- "Really? . I asked, turning toward her . My voice cracked. I couldn't remember the last time I felt like this. With fifty thousand I will be able to take care of Ivy, my roommate and my bills .
- I picked up my phone to call Ivy immediately and share the goodnews with her .
- I called her the first call ,no answer .
- The Second call , the same.
- Third call , she declined.
- I stared at my phone screen. Ivy never declines my calls.
- I felt she might still be angry with me for misplacing her resume.
- I dropped my phone on my desk and began working.
- Meanwhile At Ivy's place of work….
- The CEO's personal assistant found Ivy with the information on the resume. The CEO trying to protect his image and reputation sends him to bring Ivy to him.
- "Miss Ivy Cole?"
- Ivy froze.
- The spoon in her hand slipped and landed inside her bowl with a loud clink.
- A tall man in a black suit stood outside the small restaurant where she worked part-time.
- His expression was calm.
- "Who are you?" Ivy asked carefully.
- The man stepped closer.
- "My name is Daniel Zuma."
- He pulled out a black card.
- "Personal assistant to Ethan Dennis, the CEO Orion cooperation''.
- Ethan Dennis?
- The billionaire CEO?
- Why would someone like that be looking for her?
- Ivy became nervous.
- "Were you at Sterling Tower Hotel two nights ago?. Daniel asked.
- Her heart nearly stopped.
- '' Two nights ago?''. Ivy asked. Looking down as if she was afraid of looking at him.
- ''Don't be nervous''. Daniel reassured her .
- ''The CEO wishes to see you''.
- ''He just wants to make things up to you".
- ''Why?. Ivy asked slightly afraid. She knew she wasn't the one at the hotel. It must be Olive. Why was Ethan Dennis searching for her?. Daniel noticed she was nervous.
- ''You left your resume behind, the CEO used it to find you''.
- He pulled out his business card from his chest pocket and gives it to her.
- ''Call me when you are ready''.
- He turned and left.
- Ivy slowly smiled looking at the card.
- Now she realized something.
- The CEO doesn't know who he spent the night with.
- He is looking for the woman on the resume and the resume belongs to her.
- It was evening already when I finally left the office. I headed straight home to share the good news with Ivy.
- The apartment was very quiet when I got home.
- ' Ivy", I called her name out , while pushing the door out of excitement.
- She was sitting at the couch, staring at a business card on her hand. Lost in thought.
- '' Ivy " , I called her again.
- She stood up immediately startled,
- ''Olive, you are back", she asked while hiding the business card at her back.
- '' I got promoted, new personal secretary to the CEO .The CEO chose me himself, Fifty thousand a month. Come let's go and celebrate''. I said happily .
- For few seconds , she didn't say anything or react the way I had expected.
- ''Congrats ", she finally said flatly . I didn't mind anyway.
- ''Ivy come on.I want to take you out . My treat . We can talk later , I will explain everything later .
- '' No ", she said folding her hands . I'm not in the mood. The excitement drained out of me immediately . She was still mad . I thought. I placed my hand around her shoulder gently.
- '' I'm sorry about the resume ", I apologized, quieter this time. I'm really sorry, we can fix it together please. She stared at me for some seconds .
- ''It's fine, apology accepted. But I'm not going anywhere with you. We can just sit here and celebrate.
- ''Okay ", I said. She sat back down , I sat close to her .
- After a few minutes of silence, she said, “So you are now the assistant secretary to Ethan Dennis.
- “Yeah. Him.” I replied. Happily.
- “Thought you said he is an ass,” she said, studying me. “Cold. Ruthless. The type who thinks the company runs on fear.”
- “That’s what everyone says,” I replied. “I have barely seen him . He doesn’t come down to Marketing to say hi but now I get to see him every day.”
- She nodded slowly, then she continued , “People say he is ruthless with employees too. Fires people over small mistakes. Makes them reapply for their own jobs.”
- “That’s not true,” I said before I could stop myself. “At least, not today. He promoted me. I have to defend him right.? ” I thought.
- “Maybe you impressed him.”
- “Or maybe he was in a good mood,” I said, trying to laugh it off. “Look, I don’t know him, Ivy. All I know is that this job means I can help with some your bills comfortably.
- She didn’t answer right away. She picked at a loose thread on the couch cushion instead.
- “Good,” she said finally. “I’m glad it worked out for you.”
- It didn’t sound like she meant it. But at least she wasn’t yelling anymore.
- ''Yeah, he is not as bad as people think''.
- ''You like him?. Ivy asked gazing at me.
- " l don't know", I replied.
- '' But I kept thinking about him''.
- Ivy froze .
- Her facial expression hardened immediately.
- '' Are you okay? . I asked.
- ''Yeah, yeah ". She replied faking a smile. ''You should be careful around him , I heard he is into women''. Ivy advised.
- ''Really? , how did you know? . I asked looking at her.
- ''He is very famous, it's all over social media''. She explained.
- ''Okay ". I replied not thinking much into it.
- Then I noticed her hand still behind her back.
- '' Ivy ", I said slowly. " Who has that business card you are hiding?
- She linked fast. Pulled it out a little then shoved it back.
- ''Nobody ", she said too quick.
- ''Come on Ivy ", I pressed. " Let me see''. She sighed.
- ''It's just a job ", she said. " I got a job offer today. That’s all.
- ''Really? ", my eyes widened. " Which company?
- ' It doesn't matter ", she cut me off. " The point is I got it. So stop worrying about my resume''.
- I wanted to ask more but her face said don't. So I didn't.
- ''Congratulations then ", I said weakly. "That's good news''.
- She forced a smile. " Yeah. Good news''.
- At 2:45 AM , Ivy sat upright on the edge of her bed , the room was covered with total darkness except for the faint street light that stubbornly slipped through the curtains.
- I was asleep in the next room.
- Ivy stared at the black business card in her hand for the hundredth time.Loss in thought.
- "Why does Olive always get everything?". She asked herself still staring at the card.
- The silver letters shined brightly under the dim light.
- Slowly, she reached for her phone.
- Her right thumb hovered nervously over his number.
- Then she dialed.
