- The jagged remains of Old Erelith offered little in the way of comfort. Sharp winds sliced between the hollow buildings, and the ground was littered with glass, broken steel, and forgotten bones. The sky had darkened again—thunder rumbling in the distance like the voice of a god holding its breath.
- Amara crouched behind a rusted girder, scanning the skyline. The broadcast tower loomed two blocks ahead, rising like a giant steel thorn. Its tip vanished into the low-hanging clouds.
- Lucas joined her, breathing heavily. “Looks like a death trap.”
