Chapter 4 Why Did He Save Me
- All I wished for was to live a good life with a family to call my own. But my mate rejected and abandoned me. My half-sister sent me to marry the person she supposed to tie a knot. And now, wild rogues in the forest wanted to violate the last inch of respect I have.
- I thought I was going to die after being violated.
- “What the hell is going on here?”
- But Lucas showed up.
- The moment I saw his face, my breath caught, and it felt as though my heart had stopped mid-beat. Lucas. He was here. Relief flooded through me, but fear lingered—his presence alone might not be enough to save me.
- His crimson eyes glowed like embers in the darkness as he fixed his sharp gaze on the three wolves who had nearly taken everything from me. His voice cut through the night, low and dangerous.
- “What do you think you’re doing to her?” he growled.
- The rogues didn’t flinch. Instead, they laughed—a chilling, mocking sound. They weren’t afraid. To them, Lucas was just one man against three.
- “Can’t you tell?” one of them sneered. “We’re just enjoying a delicious meal.”
- “Hey,” another chimed in, stepping closer to Lucas, “we found her first. So back off!”
- My chest tightened. The thought of Lucas leaving me alone with these monsters was unbearable. Desperation clawed at me, and I turned to him, my voice trembling.
- “No! Please, don’t go!” I shouted, tears burning my eyes. “They tried to—”
- The words died in my throat.
- In a heartbeat, everything around me felt like it was moving in slow motion due to the terrifying scene unfolding before my eyes. A head—completely detached from its body—was flying through the air. Time seemed to distort as it spun toward me, bathed in the eerie light of the moon.
- I was paralyzed, unable to move as a scream bubbled up inside me but stayed trapped. The vacant look on the rogue’s face, with its wide eyes and gaping mouth, was burned into my memory.
- That head landed mere inches from my face. Blood pooled around it, soaking into the soil.
- 'Someone's head has been chopped off,' I thought. The moment snapped back into focus, and reality hit hard. Sounds flooded back in.
- With blood splattered across my face, I slowly darted back at Lucas. He stood there, unshaken, his hands bloodied and his stance unyielding. His glowing red eyes burned brighter now, filled with an unrelenting wrath that promised devastation.
- He wasn’t here just to scare them off. He was here to kill all of them.
- The two rogues slinked away from me, before they shifted into their wolf forms. Their hulking bodies loomed larger in the moonlight, and their snarls filled the air.
- "You had the nerve to take out Shawn!" one of them hissed, his claws shining like silver as they stretched out. "Now you're gonna pay for what you did!"
- Without a second thought, they charged at Lucas. Snarls filled the air in the woods.
- The first rogue slammed into Lucas like a freight train, their bodies crashing together in a brutal impact. Fangs snapped and claws slashed in a wild struggle for dominance. Lucas’s claws tore across the rogue’s face, ripping into flesh and leaving a nasty cut on his ear.
- But the rogue wasn’t backing down. With a savage growl, he bit into Lucas’s exposed shoulde and blood oozed through his ripped shirt.
- “Argh!” Lucas winced. For a moment, it looked like the rogue had the advantage with his teeth sunk deep into Lucas’ skin. But Lucas wasn’t about to give in. With a fierce roar, he twisted sharply, breaking free from the rogue’s hold.
- In one fluid motion, Lucas grabbed the rogue by the throat and tossed him through the air like a rag doll.
- Bam!
- The rogue slammed into a nearby tree with bone-jarring force, the impact rattling the ground.
- “Eunng!” The rogue groaned, his body trembling as he struggled to rise. Blood trickled down his matted fur, and his ears pinned back.
- Lucas barely had a moment to catch his breath before the second rogue emerged from the shadows,
- The remaining rogue shouted, “What the hell?!” and took off running. But Lucas was quicker. In a flash, he closed the gap and grabbed the rogue by the back of his neck.
- The rogue let out a choked scream, thrashing around, but Lucas didn’t back down. He slammed him against a solid tree with such force that I could hear the cracking sounds of ribs.
- Krrk!
- The rogue collapsed to the ground, coughing and struggling to breathe, his breaths coming in ragged gasps. Bloodied and weak, he tried to crawl away, but he was running out of strength.
- Lucas loomed over the chaos with his red eyes burning.
- The rogue looked up at Lucas. “A-Are you the guard of the Red Blood Pack? The infamous cursed rogue… Lucas?”
- My breath caught in my throat as I glanced at Lucas. He had transformed into a huge black wolf, his fur shimmering in the faint moonlight.
- It was... beautiful. But at the same time, it was terrifying. I could tell why the rogue who asked him the question trembled at the sight of that massive black wolf.
- It was because Lucas didn't need to say word to answer it. Just his presence was enough to make the rogue shrink back in fear.
- With slow, purposeful strides, Lucas moved closer to the beaten man, looming over him with his massive paws.
- “Please!” the rogue cried, his earlier bravado fading into sheer panic. “Just let me go! I promise I won’t go near that woman again! I’ll run far away—please!”
- His desperate pleas echoed in the silence, but Lucas showed no signs of mercy. His fiery eyes blazed with unyielding rage as he lifted one enormous claw.
- And then, in one brutal, swift motion, it was done.
- The rogue’s head tumbled to the ground, his lifeless body crumpling beside it.
- “Ack!”
- Thud.
- The forest was eerily quiet, except for the sound of my heavy breathing. I glanced at the other lifeless bodies scattered on the ground, their blood soaking into the soil.
- I gulped, my chest rising and falling rapidly as Lucas transformed back into his human self. He towered over me, his muscular build imposing, and his face—streaked with the blood of those he had defeated—was both unreadable and frightening.
- My heart raced, fear flooding through me. Every instinct told me to flee, but my legs felt like they were glued to the ground. I was frozen, staring at the man—or beast—who had just taken down three rogues without breaking a sweat.
- He’s a monster.
- Maggie thinks I should marry him instead?
- I’d die too!
- Lucas raised his hand slightly, as if he was about to speak, but panic took over my thoughts. I couldn’t risk it.
- "Are you—"
- Before he could wrap up what he was saying, I transformed into my wolf form in a flash of fur and instinct. Without a second thought, I lunged at him and bit his arm.
- “Grr…!” I growled fiercely.
- But Lucas didn’t push back. He didn’t try to shove me away or even flinch. Instead, he just frowned. His intense gaze locked onto me, which made my heart skip a beat.
- Why wasn’t he fighting back? Why was he just… staring?
- “You must be scared,” he said softly. And oddly, it was comforting. His arm wrapped around me tighter, pulling me in closer even with my teeth still digging into his skin. “It’s okay now. But you can stop biting me.”
- He spoke with a calmness, yet authoritative. Still, I couldn’t bring myself to let go. My instincts were screaming at me to hold on, as if letting him go would mean losing my life.
- But when I finally looked up, I noticed the exhaustion etched on his face. There was no anger or frustration. It was as if my frantic outburst was merely a small thing to him and not a threat.
- “Is this how you show gratitude to someone who saved your life?” he asked.
- I froze, a bit guilty. Yet, before I could respond, a sharp pain shot through my head, sending everything into a dizzying spin.
- “Ugh!”
- The impact forced my teeth to release his arm and my wolf form flickered. My knees gave way, and just as I felt myself going down, strong, steady hands caught me.
- Warmth.
- Not just the physical warmth. It was a kind of emotion that made me feel so safe. Lucas’s scent surrounded me with mixed blend of the blood. And yet, it was sweet.
- My heart beat steady when I leaned my cheek against his chest. Before the darkness pulled me in, I once looked at his face and asked myself, ‘Why did the monster rogue save me?’
