Chapter 5 Lies Unveiled

  • Madison's POV
  • Chad's reaction didn't catch me off guard in the least.
  • As a celebrity, Penelope was truly putting on an impressive show. Her acting skills were nothing short of expert.
  • I gave a scornful smile before turning to the doctor with an air of collectedness.
  • "Are you absolutely sure she requires a kidney transplant?"
  • Chad, clearly taken aback by my sudden question, shifted his gaze to the doctor as well.
  • I noticed the doctor's expression momentarily freeze. After a hurried glance at Penelope, he nodded quickly. "Yes, Ms. Hammond is suffering from severe kidney failure, and she is very weak. She needs the surgery immediately."
  • "Then what are you waiting for?" Chad's tone was icy.
  • "We'll get started right away," the doctor responded, awkwardly preparing to leave.
  • As soon as he spoke, Penelope shot me a look of triumph from a concealed angle.
  • I returned her gaze with a faint smile while my right hand subtly tensed.
  • In the blink of an eye, I made a swift move towards Penelope's vulnerable neck, as though I aimed to slice through her veins with the precision of a blade.
  • The speed of my action was so quick that the others in the room barely had time to react.
  • Werewolves, when faced with danger, would instinctively shift into their beastly forms.
  • Penelope did not disappoint. Almost instantly, she threw off the covers, nimbly rolled off the bed, and sprinted towards the window, her face a picture of fear.
  • By the time she realised what was happening, it was too late; the atmosphere in the room had dropped to a chilling freeze.
  • I looked at Chad, my expression laced with sarcasm. "You made it sound like she was severely weak, but she looks fine to me. She's still quite nimble; she doesn't look like a dying person at all."
  • Chad's usually composed face, which had been steady and unemotional for the past three years, was now a mix of confusion, realisation, and growing anger.
  • I wanted to laugh but felt a sense of relief instead. It appeared that Penelope's schemes were entirely foreign to him.
  • While my judgement might have its flaws, it was evident that his was not much better.
  • Penelope, clearly flustered, stuttered, "Chad, it's not what it seems. Madison was clearly trying to kill me. I was just ...
  • "I haven't even transformed into wolf form. You're clearly feeling guilty," I said coldly. "Penelope, if you have an issue with me, there's no need for such deceitful tactics."
  • I then turned to Chad. "Since we have nothing to do now, let's go to the Moon Goddess temple and end the bond."
  • Chad's eyes widened in disbelief as he looked at me. "What on earth are you talking about? Yes, Penelope made a mistake, but haven't I already compensated you?"
  • I met his cold gaze calmly, unwilling to delve further into the matter.
  • He and I were never in sync, and dealing with a mate like this was exhausting.
  • I looked at the man before me. His distinct and handsome features were striking and captivating. Yet, despite his allure, he had never offered me a kind word.
  • I used to be cautious and anxious about upsetting him, but now, witnessing his reaction, I feel as serene as a calm lake.
  • "Let's end the bond. In the future, you could marry another unfortunate RH-negative person. If Penelope needs more than just a kidney—whether it's bone marrow, corneas, or even a heart—it won't be a problem," I stated coldly.
  • I delivered these words with an indifferent smile, as though discussing the day's weather.
  • The immediate darkening of Chad's expression gave me a flicker of satisfaction.
  • "Madison, I hope you won't regret this!"
  • "I already do. My biggest regret is marrying you three years ago." My conviction was stronger than ever.
  • I was tired of repeatedly hitting the same old barriers on Chad's path. Truly, I had had enough!
  • "I'll be waiting downstairs. If you don't come, I'll send this photo out." Without another word, I turned sharply and headed towards the door.
  • Chad's POV
  • Seeing Madison's departing smile—so audacious and frosty—felt like a knife twisting in my heart.
  • Ignoring Penelope's frantic cries behind me, I stormed out of the room, directing my wrath at the doctor. I grabbed him by the arm.
  • "She's very weak and in critical condition, you say? Is this the standard of care at your hospital?"
  • The doctor shook uncontrollably, his voice trembling.
  • "Ms. Hammond gave the orders; it had nothing to do with us. Ms. Hammond claimed you were indifferent to your wife, and we were merely following orders. Mr. Pierce, we won't make such mistakes again ... "
  • Had I been too lenient with Penelope?
  • Did Madison insist on ending the bond because she misunderstood my relationship with Penelope?
  • If that was the case, it had to be clarified. Even though I didn't have deep feelings for this mate, werewolves were naturally loyal to their marriages.
  • From the outset, I had no intention of ending the bond.
  • If she was unhappy with my relationship with Penelope, I could maintain a distance from her.
  • After all, this marriage wasn't an insurmountable problem, and continuing it was certainly feasible.
