Chapter 69
- The envelope was too thick to ignore.
- It had been dropped through the slot early in the morning, sealed in stiff ivory paper and marked with a logo I didn’t recognize. I didn’t touch it at first. I left it sitting on the floor just past the door, angled awkwardly against the wall like it didn’t want to be part of this place. I stepped around it twice. I made coffee. I opened my laptop and stared at emails. I watched the steam rise out of the mug until it stopped.
