Chapter 8 This Wound, If Left Untreated, Will Soon Heal!
- Aurora’s POV
- Mrs. Sharp looked at Ethan and said, “Don’t jump to conclusions before you understand everything.”
- Ethan blinked, stunned. “Mom, what do you mean? You actually believe her? Evelyn is the one who’s hurt, and you’re siding with Aurora? Didn’t you see how she kicked Duoya? She did it like she’s trained.”
- I smiled faintly. “Your eyesight must be getting worse, no wonder you didn’t see clearly. Fine, I’ll explain this just once.”
- I pointed at Duoya lying on the floor. “Look at the direction she fell. If I had pushed her from behind, she would have fallen forward, face down. But Evelyn fell backward. Am I supposed to have pushed her from behind and then kindly flipped her over?”
- Ethan turned red. “That… that doesn’t prove anything!”
- The healer arrived carrying a medical kit.
- I rested my chin on my hand. “Well, this is getting interesting. Since none of you believe me and the healer is here, they can examine the injuries and determine whether the push came from the front or the back. That will show who’s lying.”
- I glanced at Evelyn’s deliberately extended injured finger. “If Evelyn doesn’t treat that soon, the wound will heal all by itself.”
- Evelyn immediately snatched her hand back, eyes darting in guilt. “It’s not that serious. Mom, maybe just forget it.”
- “Alright. Maybe Evelyn just got nervous and tripped by accident. She wouldn’t lie about something like this. Let’s drop it,” Mrs. Sharp declared, ending any discussion of Evelyn framing me, and certainly preventing any punishment.
- Then she turned to me with an unusually gentle expression. “Aurora, go change your clothes. If you don’t like this nanny, I’ll have Mason replace her. Dinner is about to start, don’t keep the family waiting.”
- There was no point arguing. Mrs. Sharp would never punish Evelyn, and I didn’t feel like wasting more energy.
- So, I just nodded.
- But as they walked away, a cold smile curved at my lips.
- When Evelyn walked past, I leaned close and whispered, “By the way, what I said earlier about determining the direction of the push from the injury was total nonsense. Didn’t expect you to fall for it.”
- I caught the sharp glare in her eyes and shut the door with a satisfied click.
- “Oh, Aurora, we should just tear them all apart. Or dump a bottle of poison on them and send them straight to hell. You’re way too soft.”
- My inner wolf, Doe, had been cursing the Sharp family nonstop since I arrived.
- I had barely managed to calm it earlier, afraid it would lose control.
- Looks like it finally reached its limit.
- I shook my head. “Relax. Think of it as watching a circus. Don’t worry, I’m not letting them walk all over me.”
- After soothing my furious Doe, I went back to packing.
- Half an hour later, just as I felt relieved, someone began pounding on my door.
- Before I could stand up, the door flew open.
- Ethan stormed in, eyes blazing. “Aurora, you’ve gone too far this time!”
- I took a deep breath and forced my anger down.
- Trying to stay calm, I asked, “What did I do now?”
- “Do? You think you deserve to anger me? Come downstairs right now. Mom and Dad are about to die from your nonsense!”
- He stormed off before I could respond.
- I looked at my half-packed suitcase and quietly slipped my foster mom’s photo into it.
- Looks like staying here won’t be easy.
- As soon as I reached the bottom of the stairs, a glass shattered at my feet.
- “Aurora, do you even realize what you did wrong?”
- “No.”
- My direct answer stunned everyone.
- “What did you say?”
- I honestly wondered if this family had hearing problems. Why did they always make me repeat myself?
- I stared straight into my furious father Aides’ eyes without flinching.
- “Dad, Mom, enough. Seriously, enough.”
- Evelyn rushed over, crying again.
- “Baby, don’t go near her. She might hurt you.”
- My father immediately looked at Evelyn in concern, as if I were some wild animal ready to attack.
- Ethan hurried over to stand protectively beside her.
- He glared at me like I was a threat.
- “Aurora, I know you hate me. You’re the real Sharp heir, but Mom and Dad decided to keep your identity hidden to spare my feelings. This is all my fault. I’m sorry.”
- “Fine, I’ll give everything back to you now. If you think I’m just a burden to the Sharp Family, I can move out and never show my face again.”
- Tears streamed down Evelyn’s cheeks like a broken string of pearls.
- She looked so fragile that anyone would pity her.
- Mrs. Sharp followed behind, her eyes red.
- She shot me a disappointed look. “Aurora, I know you’re hurt, but you don’t have to be so desperate to get into the family records. Have you ever thought about how Evelyn feels? You are both my daughters. I want you to get along.”
- I was completely confused. What the hell were they even talking about?
- All I did was pack my things, and they somehow created a whole dramatic tragedy out of it.
