Chapter 8 This Wound, If Left Untreated, Will Soon Heal!
- Aurora’s POV:
- Mrs. Sharp looked at Ethan and said, “Don’t jump to conclusions before you’ve got all the facts.”
- Ethan was totally thrown off. “Mom, what do you mean? You actually believe what she said? Evelyn’s the one hurt right now, and you’re siding with her? Didn’t you see how she just kicked Duoya? She did it like a pro.”
- I smiled and said, “Your eyesight’s failing you, no wonder you didn’t see it clearly. Fine, I’ll explain it to you, just this once.”
- I pointed at Duoya lying on the ground and said slowly, “Look at the direction she fell. If I had pushed her from behind, by inertia, she’d fall forward, face down. But look at how Evelyn fell—she tipped backward. So, did I push her from behind and then kindly flip her over?”
- Ethan’s face flushed red with anger. “That… that doesn’t prove you’re innocent!”
- Just then, the Healer showed up carrying a medical kit.
- I propped my chin on my hand and said slowly, “Well, this just got tricky. Since none of you believe me, and the Healer’s here, maybe they can tell the difference between a push from the front and a push from behind by checking the injuries. That’ll show who’s lying.”
- I glanced at Evelyn’s deliberately extended injured finger and smirked, “Tsk tsk, if Evelyn doesn’t get that treated soon, this wound’s gonna heal all by itself…”
- No sooner had I said that, Evelyn quickly pulled back the finger she was about to hand over for treatment.
- “I-it’s not that bad. Mom, maybe just forget it,” she said, eyes darting around, clearly feeling guilty.
- “Alright, maybe Evelyn just got too nervous and tripped by accident. She definitely wouldn’t lie on purpose. Let’s just drop it,” Mrs. Sharp declared, shutting down any talk about Evelyn framing me, let alone punishing her.
- Then she turned to me, her face softening in a rare way. “Aurora, go change your clothes. If you don’t like this nanny, I’ll have Mason get you another one. Dinner’s about to start, don’t keep the family waiting.”
- I knew there was no point arguing anymore—Mrs. Sharp wouldn’t punish Evelyn, and I didn’t feel like fighting them.
- So, I just nodded.
- But as I watched them walk away, a cold smile curled at the corner of my lips.
- “`
- When Evelyn walked past me, I leaned in close and whispered in her ear, “Forgot to tell you something. That thing I said earlier about figuring out the direction of the injury based on the wound? Total bullshit. Didn’t expect you to actually buy it.”
- I caught the sharp glare in Evelyn’s eyes and shut the door with a satisfied click.
- “Oh, Aurora, we should just tear them all apart! Or dump a bottle of poison on them and send them straight to hell. You’re way too soft.”
- Since I stepped into this house, my inner wolf, Doe, had been cursing the Sharp family nonstop.
- I’d barely managed to calm it down just now, afraid it would lose control.
- Looks like it’s finally hit its limit.
- I shook my head. “Easy, don’t get mad. Just think of it as watching a clown show. Don’t worry, I’m not gonna get screwed over!”
- After soothing my raging Doe, I went back to packing my stuff.
- Half an hour later, just as I finally let out a breath, there was a loud pounding on the door.
- Before I could even get up, the door slammed open with a bang!
- Ethan stormed in, eyes blazing. “Aurora, you’ve gone too far this time!”
- I took a deep breath and forced down the fire burning inside me.
- Trying to keep my voice calm, I asked, “What did I do to piss you off now?”
- “Piss me off? You think you even deserve that? Get down here right now! Mom and Dad are about to die from your bullshit!”
- Without waiting for me to say more, he spun around and stormed off.
- I glanced at my half-packed suitcase and quietly slipped my foster mom’s photo back inside.
- Looks like this place isn’t so easy to stick around after all.
- Just as I got downstairs, a glass shattered at my feet.
- “Aurora, do you even realize what you did wrong?”
- “No.”
- My answer was blunt and straightforward, leaving everyone stunned.
- “What did you say?”
- I seriously wondered if this family had hearing problems. Why did they always make me repeat myself?
- I stared straight into my furious father Aides’ eyes, not backing down one bit.
- “Dad, Mom, enough. Seriously, enough…”
- Evelyn came over crying.
- “Baby, don’t get close to her. Watch out, she might hurt you.”
- My father immediately looked at Evelyn with worry, like I was some kind of dangerous monster.
- Ethan quickly stepped up too, standing protectively by Evelyn’s side.
- His eyes were sharp, watching me like I might snap and hurt her any second.
- “Evelyn, I know you hate me. You’re the real Sharp family heir. But Dad and Mom decided to keep your identity a secret for now because they wanted to spare my feelings. This is all my fault. I’m sorry.”
- “Fine, I’m giving everything back to you now. If you think I’m just a pain in the ass staying with the Sharp family, I can move out and never show my face around here again!”
- Evelyn said that, tears pouring down like a busted string of pearls.
- She looked so fragile, anyone would feel sorry for her.
- Mrs. Sharp followed behind, her eyes getting red too.
- She shot me a look full of disappointment. “Aurora, I get that you’re hurt, but you don’t have to be so desperate to get into the family records. Have you even thought about how Evelyn feels? You’re both my kids. I want you two to get along peacefully!”
- I was totally confused. What the hell were they talking about?
- All I did was pack my stuff, and they already spun this whole drama in their heads?
