Chapter 7 Who's Lying?

  • Aurora’s POV
  • Evelyn shot me a disgusted look; the weak girl who had been crying beside Mrs. Sharp downstairs was nowhere to be seen.
  • “Aurora, I get that you can’t stand me, but Duoya has been with the Sharp Family for years. No matter how mad you are, you shouldn’t have laid a hand on her.”
  • “How about doing me a favor and apologizing to Duoya?” I raised an eyebrow.
  • Evelyn stepped closer, lowering her voice so only we could hear. “Aurora, my sister, don’t get cocky. I swear I’m going to kick you out of the Sharp Family.”
  • “Is that so? I’m waiting.”
  • Her expression shifted instantly. She grabbed my hand and suddenly started crying. “Aurora, please, I didn’t mean to take your place as the Sharp Family’s golden girl. Don’t make things harder for me. Mom and Dad will be so upset…”
  • Before she even finished pretending to plead, she abruptly fell backward. Her arm hit the fruit tray Duoya was holding.
  • Crash! The ceramic shattered.
  • Evelyn’s fingers were cut, blood oozing out.
  • “Ahhh!” she screamed in pain.
  • “Evelyn!” Mrs. Sharp and Ethan rushed upstairs at that exact moment. Seeing Evelyn on the floor, they hurried to her and shoved Duoya aside as she tried to help.
  • “Are you okay? Where does it hurt? Let Mom see!”
  • “Oh my god, your hand is bleeding! Why are you standing there? Go get the healer, now!”
  • I caught a sly smile flicker in Evelyn’s eyes.
  • She tilted her head back, letting tears fall dramatically, though her words seemed to defend me. “I’m fine. Mom, don’t blame Aurora. I just tripped by accident.”
  • Ethan’s expression twisted with rage at those words. He lunged toward me and raised his hand to slap me.
  • But his palm never connected. I grabbed his wrist and yanked it downward, forcing him to stumble backward.
  • “How dare you! Aurora, you pushed Evelyn and now you’re attacking Ethan? Do you even respect me as your mother?” Mrs. Sharp snapped angrily.
  • “He hit me first! Didn’t you see that?” I shot back.
  • Evelyn tried to get up to calm the situation but collapsed again, gasping as if in unbearable pain.
  • She looked so weak she couldn’t sit upright. Panicking, she cried, “Mom, it really wasn’t Aurora’s fault. I just tripped. Please don’t blame her. It’s all my fault.”
  • The more desperately she tried to take the blame, the less my mom and Ethan believed her.
  • “Mom, just look at Evelyn and then look at her. This girl didn’t grow up with us. She picked up all kinds of bad habits and lies without blinking. If anyone in the family sees this, what will happen to the Sharp Family’s reputation?”
  • “Ethan, don’t blame Aurora. It’s my fault,” Evelyn whispered weakly. Her face was pale, tight with pain, and sweat formed on her forehead.
  • Watching her act, I was honestly impressed.
  • I couldn’t help thinking: She could definitely make it in showbiz.
  • Still, I nodded along and said, “Yes, it really is her fault.”
  • “Do you think we’re blind?” Ethan shouted.
  • Mrs. Sharp ordered, “Aurora, apologize to Evelyn right now.”
  • “You people are ridiculous. She sent her servant to provoke me first, then she purposely fell. And now you want me to apologize? Since when did the Sharp Family’s tradition become blaming others no matter what?”
  • “Enough!” Evelyn suddenly yelled, her voice filled with disappointment as she looked at me. “I don’t want to cover for you anymore. Aurora, if you admit your mistake on your own, I’ll forgive you. If you keep pretending you did nothing wrong, you’ll ruin the Sharp Family’s name. I won’t allow that.”
  • “What proof do you have that I pushed you?”
  • “I can testify!” Duoya quickly raised her hand. “I saw Miss Aurora push Miss Evelyn with my own eyes.”
  • “Oh really? Then why would I push her?”
  • “Because… because you’re jealous that Miss Evelyn is more favored!” Duoya glanced at Evelyn as if she had just received permission and continued louder, “You even hit me just now because you heard I used to serve Miss Evelyn. Miss Evelyn is too kind and couldn’t watch it happen. She said a few words for me, and you shoved her to the ground.”
  • “Did you see whether I pushed her from the front or the back?”
  • “From… from behind!”
  • I looked at Evelyn. “You agree with what she’s saying?”
  • Evelyn wiped her tears and nodded.
  • Ethan stepped forward, ready to attack again.
  • I sighed. “Hold on. Don’t rush.”
  • “What else do you want to say?” Ethan said as he rolled up his sleeves.
  • I pointed at Duoya. “You, come here.”
  • Duoya hesitated, then walked over and stopped in front of me.
  • “Turn around.”
  • The moment she turned her back, I kicked her hard right in the ass.
  • “Ah!”
  • Duoya fell to the floor with a heavy thud and screamed in shock.
  • Silence fell. Everyone froze.
  • I dusted my hands and looked at Ethan. “Now do you understand?”
  • “Have you lost your damn mind?” Ethan shouted. “Aurora, you’re way too arrogant. How dare you touch her right in front of us!”
  • I shook my head at his stupidity. I almost didn’t want to admit he was my brother.
  • Then my gaze shifted to Mrs. Sharp.
  • She understood immediately. She grabbed Evelyn’s hand so tightly she nearly made her fall again.
