Chapter 7 Who's Lying?
- Aurora’s POV:
- Evelyn shot me a disgusted look—gone was the weak girl who’d been crying by Mrs. Sharp’s side downstairs.
- “Aurora, I get that you can’t stand me, but Duoya’s been with the Sharp Family for years. No matter how mad you are, you shouldn’t have laid a hand on her!”
- “How about doing me a favor and apologizing to Duoya?” I raised an eyebrow.
- Evelyn stepped closer, lowering her voice so only we could hear. “Aurora, my sister, don’t get cocky. I swear, I’m going to kick you out of the Sharp Family.”
- “Is that so? I’m waiting.”
- Her expression shifted suddenly. She grabbed my hand and started crying, “Aurora, please, I didn’t mean to steal your spot as the Sharp Family’s golden girl. Don’t make things harder for me. Mom and Dad will be so upset…”
- Before she finished, she suddenly fell backward, her arm smashing the fruit tray Duoya was holding.
- Crash! The ceramic shattered.
- Evelyn’s fingers were cut, blood oozing out.
- “Ahhh!” she screamed in pain.
- “Evelyn!” Just then, Mrs. Sharp and Ethan came upstairs. Seeing Evelyn on the floor, they rushed over, pushing Duoya away from helping her.
- “Are you okay? Where are you hurt? Let Mom see!”
- “Oh my god, your hand’s bleeding! What are you standing there for? Go get the healer, now!”
- I caught a glimpse of a sly smile flash in Evelyn’s eyes.
- She tilted her head back, letting tears drip down, but her words were aimed at clearing me: “I’m fine. Mom, don’t blame Aurora. I just tripped by accident.”
- Ethan’s face twisted with anger when he heard that. He lunged at me, raising his hand to slap me.
- But his palm never came down. I grabbed his wrist tight and yanked hard, making him stumble back a couple of steps.
- “How dare you! Aurora, you pushed Evelyn and now you’re attacking Ethan? Do you even respect me as your mother?” Mrs. Sharp snapped furiously.
- “He hit me first! Didn’t you see that?” I shot back.
- Evelyn tried to get up and calm things down but collapsed heavily back onto the floor.
- She looked like she was in so much pain she couldn’t sit up. Panicked, she cried out, “Mom, it really wasn’t Aurora’s fault. I just tripped. Please don’t blame her—it’s all my fault.”
- The more desperately she took the blame, the less my mom and Ethan believed her.
- “`
- “Mom, just look at Evelyn, then look at her. This girl didn’t grow up with us, picked up all kinds of bad habits, lies like it’s nothing. If anyone else in the Family sees this, what’s left of the Sharp Family’s reputation?”
- “Ethan, don’t blame Aurora. It’s my fault,” Evelyn weakly defended me, though her face was pale and tight with pain, sweat beading on her forehead.
- Watching her act like that, I was honestly a little stunned.
- I couldn’t help but think: She’s got a future in showbiz for sure.
- Still, I nodded along to what she said, “Yeah, it really is her fault!”
- “Do you think we’re all blind?” Ethan shouted.
- Mrs. Sharp ordered, “Aurora, apologize to Evelyn right now.”
- “You guys are hilarious. She sent her servant to provoke me first, then she purposely fell down. And now you want me to say sorry? Since when did the Sharp Family’s tradition become blaming others no matter what?”
- “Enough!” Evelyn suddenly yelled, her eyes full of disappointment as she looked at me. “At this point, I don’t want to cover for you anymore. Aurora, if you admit your mistake on your own, I’ll forgive you. But if you keep acting like you don’t care, this will ruin the Sharp Family’s name—and I won’t stand for that.”
- “What proof do you have that I pushed you?”
- “I can testify!” Duoya immediately raised her hand. “I saw Miss Aurora push Miss Evelyn with my own eyes.”
- “Oh yeah? Then why would I push her?”
- “Because… because you’re jealous that Miss Evelyn is more favored!” She sneaked a glance at Evelyn, like she’d just gotten some kind of green light, and her voice got louder. “You even hit me just now because you heard I used to serve Miss Evelyn. Miss Evelyn’s kind and couldn’t stand it. She only said a few words for me, and you shoved her to the ground!”
- “Did you see if I pushed her from the front or from behind?”
- “From, from behind!”
- I glanced at Evelyn. “You agree with what she’s saying?”
- Evelyn wiped her tears and nodded.
- Ethan was about to step forward, ready to throw a punch.
- I sighed softly. “Hold on, don’t rush!”
- “What else do you want to say?” Ethan rolled up his sleeves and growled at me.
- I raised my hand and pointed at Duoya beside me. “You, come here.”
- Duoya hesitated but walked over and stood right in front of me.
- I ordered again, “Turn around.”
- The moment she turned her back, I kicked her hard right in the ass.
- “Ah—!”
- Duoya crashed to the ground with a loud thud, letting out a shocked cry.
- Silence fell over the whole place. Everyone just froze.
- I clapped my hands and looked at Ethan. “Now do you get it?”
- “Are you out of your damn mind?” Ethan shouted. “Aurora, you’re way too cocky—how dare you lay a hand on her right in front of us!”
- I shook my head at Ethan’s stupidity. Honestly, I didn’t even want to admit he was my brother.
- Then my eyes landed on Mrs. Sharp.
- She caught on to what I was doing right away. Gripping Evelyn’s hand, she trembled so hard she almost made Evelyn fall again.
