Chapter 2 – Lady Luck
- Aurora’s POV
- Confused, I reached for the mirror on the dresser.
- Under the cold moonlight, a faint silver crescent glowed on my forehead, shimmering like it was alive.
- “It’s your bloodline gift! Babe, you’ve awakened the ancient Moon God bloodline. Precognition!” Doe exclaimed, practically vibrating with excitement.
- But I couldn’t feel happy. A terrible thought flashed through my mind.
- “So all the nightmares I’ve had this past month… they’re visions of the future?”
- Images of betrayal by my own family and humiliation at the hands of the homeless flooded my head again.
- The pain struck instantly. A sharp, crushing headache forced me to clutch my skull as a scream tore out of my throat. Tears streamed uncontrollably.
- “Aurora, quickly take the Calming Elixir!”
- Following Doe’s urging, I opened the drawer with trembling hands, grabbed a bottle of the potion, and swallowed it in one breath.
- Ittook a while before my breathing began to steady.
- With shaky fingers, I wiped my tear-stained face.
- “Doe, I suddenly don’t want to go back to the Sharp Family.”
- “Why, Aurora? If your biological parents knew you awakened such a rare bloodline talent, they’d be proud of you. Isn’t that what you always wanted?”
- I forced a strained smile. “But it means those dreams might not just be dreams. The day after tomorrow, the Sharp Family is coming to take me back. And I heard their daughter’s name is Evelyn…”
- “Uh…”
- Doe looked uneasy. It already knew what was in my nightmares and had no comforting words to offer.
- “Maybe… we shouldn’t go back?” it suggested softly.
- I considered the idea, genuinely considered it, but finally shook my head.
- “No. I’m not going to throw away everything I’ve prepared just because of a premonition.” I drew in a steadying breath. “If the dreams come true, I’ll face it. The Sharp Family treated me well, so I don’t mind repaying their kindness. And if things end the way they did in the visions… well, I won’t say I didn’t warn them.”
- “Aurora, I’ll always be with you,” Doe murmured softly, trying to comfort me.
- I let out a tired chuckle and stood. On my bedside table was a photo of me and my adoptive mother.
- My fingertips brushed over her eyes and eyebrows.
- “Mom, are you doing well in heaven? I’ve been taking good care of myself. I even found my family. You can rest peacefully now.”
- A sudden knock sounded at the door.
- “Miss, what happened? Do you need help?”
- It was Henry’s voice. When I opened the door, his brows furrowed the moment he saw me.
- “You look even more tired than yesterday.”
- I gave him a gentle smile.
- Henry had been left to me by my adoptive mother. He watched me grow up and was unwaveringly loyal. I invited him inside. Once he was sure I was unharmed, he hesitated before speaking.
- “Yesterday, the Alpha of the Redrock Pack begged us for medicine again. His youngest son is gravely ill. He might not survive much longer.”
- I lowered my gaze, rubbing my fingertips together.
- “Tell him that if he’s willing to let his son participate as a test subject, I’ll provide him with special treatment. Cases of that bloodline infection are rare.”
- “Yes, ma’am.”
- “Henry, while I’m gone, Lunaris Laboratories will be under your command.”
- He bowed deeply.
- “It is an honor to serve you. Everyone has witnessed everything you’ve done for the laboratory. Mrs. Davis would be proud of you.”
- My expression softened. My adoptive mother had been a remarkable woman—the founder of Lunaris Laboratories, the largest potion research facility in the werewolf world.
- After her passing, I inherited her work, pushing the laboratory to a higher level. Now, I was the de facto head of the entire establishment.
- To make operations easier, I used the codename “K.”
- Everyone called me Mr. K.
- Just like my mother, I had become someone both respected and feared.
- “But… are you sure you don’t want me to assign a bodyguard?”
- “No need. Betty Cooper from Emberfang Pack is in Mamba City. I once saved her grandmother. If anything happens, I’ll contact her.”
- “And your official identity for the trip?”
- I thought for a moment. “Register me as a pharmacist assistant at Lunaris Laboratories.”
- The title alone carried enough weight to make powerful Alphas step aside.
- Even a low-ranking staff member from Lunaris was someone no one wanted to provoke.
- “Right away, my King.”
- Night fell once again, and I dragged myself upright on the bed.
- “Oh, Doe, if I don’t get some sleep soon, I’m going to collapse.”
- “But every time I close my eyes, those prophetic dreams pull me right back…”
- I buried my face in my hands.
- Receiving the Moon Goddess’s blessing was extremely rare.
- It meant I possessed a bloodline stronger than an Alpha’s.
- But every gift came with a price.
- My price was these brutal nightmares that stole every hour of sleep.
- “Darling Aurora, you’re far too stressed. You need a break. There’s a great bar in town. Go relax… drown your nerves in some alcohol.”
- “You’re right.” I threw off the blankets with new determination. “Tonight, I’m going to sleep like a rock.”
- “Haha, you should’ve made this choice ages ago! Who knows, you might even run into a handsome mystery man.”
- I washed up quickly, dressed, and drove to the bar Doe mentioned.
- By the time I pushed the door open, it was already 1 a.m.
- A wave of pounding music swallowed me instantly.
- The dance floor pulsed like an electric heart, bodies moving wildly with the rhythm.
- Just as I was taking in the scene, a sudden shout blasted through the speakers.
- “Surprise! Beautiful lady!” the bartender called, drawing the entire bar’s attention. “You are our fifty-second guest tonight. That means VIP treatment! Everyone, welcome our Lady Luck!”
- The bar exploded with cheers.
- Whistles echoed from every corner.
- Apparently, it was some kind of celebration. I happened to be the fifty-second guest and earned the title of Lady Luck.
- “Looks like today really is my lucky day,” I whispered to Doe.
- “Of course, babe. You’re always my Lady Luck.”
- Before long, several handsome male models circled around me, moving with the music, confident and dangerously attractive.
- The bartender explained that I could choose one of them to accompany me for the night as part of the Lady Luck privilege.
- I neither accepted nor refused.
- I simply let the music and alcohol wash through me, dancing until my limbs felt feather-light and my thoughts blissfully numb.
- Eventually, exhausted, I stumbled into the VIP lounge prepared for me.
- “Oh man, Doe, I should’ve listened to you and come earlier. That guy from before was unbelievably attractive.”
- I hiccupped and babbled drunkenly while Doe buzzed around, just as intoxicated.
- “You should’ve dragged him up here and kept him for the night. That slim waist looked like it could wreck you in the best way.”
- “You’re right. Just wait… wait till I go back and find him.”
