Chapter 129 (He Was Right)

  • Throughout the ride back home, none of us said a word to each other. As soon as the car pulled to a stop in front of my house, I pushed the door open and stormed toward the entrance with Kai in my arms, without sparing him a glance. I could still feel his intense stare from behind, making me uncomfortable. I pressed the bell twice, and the door swung open. I slammed it shut behind me and handed Kai to Ella, to help tug him to bed.
  • "You're back," Margaret's voice drew my attention. My gaze switched to her direction, and I frowned, surprised to see her here. We hadn't spoken since that night, and I hardly saw her. At some point, I thought she was intentionally avoiding me.
  • "You came," I said, stroking over to sit on the couch opposite hers, an exhausted sigh escaping my lips. Ella had gone upstairs to put Kai to bed, and looking around, I noticed Matilda wasn't around.
