  • It was late—past office hours—but neither Esrael nor I made a move to leave. The city lights poured in through the glass walls of my office, flickering faintly across the polished floor. I leaned back in my chair, one hand wrapped around a glass of scotch, the other resting on the armrest. Esrael sat across from me, his own drink untouched, waiting for me to speak first.
  • “It was an easy day,” I said, my voice low, calm. “The interviews didn’t take long. Most were easy to reject. Only a handful stood out... barely.”
