Chapter 54 Checking on Her

• Several minutes after her dear Leo had gone away with the guard, Mara still sat there staring into space with a big and happy smile on her face as she daydreamed on how beautiful and charming their marriage would be. She wouldn't mind having a few more children if he wanted them and she would try to make sure that they spend every evening of their lives together, playing, laughing and telling naughty stories to each other. She wanted a married life that her father and stepmother never had, and for her children, she wanted a childhood that she never had and she had no doubt in her mind that Leo was the perfect man with whom she would make it all happen and she the perfect woman that Leo needed to make it happen for himself too.
• Eventually, it wasn't the guards but the waking up of little Leo that reminded Mara that she needed to go back home. But despite all that had happened and all she had in her mind, she still didn't forget to put the food she had brought under the table for Leo. Nothing on Earth would make her forget to do such a thing.
• When Mara returned home, in the excess of her joy, she didn't bother to follow the usual precaution of getting out of the cab at some distance away from the house. Instead, she ordered the cab driver to go all the way to the building. But as they approached her house, she could see that everything was not as it should be. Her heart skipped a beat.
