Chapter 2

  • Amara POV.
  • I opened my phone. Flood of messages had entered. Mum had sent a series of messages while I was engulfed by Dr Moxley shenanigan.
  • A doctor countered “Show us now! We will take this up to the chairman and the State board.”
  • Another voice uttered, “he may even be the one to lose his job before today runs out, he doesn't know the mess he is in.”
  • One was about to snatch my phone from my hand, thank goodness, I reacted very well.
  • “Ok guys, give me some minutes.” I uttered to cool the tension in the air.
  • Pandemonium had erupted. It was like a D-Day for Dr Moxley for his wickedness to be exposed. I quickly sent the video and pictures to the group chat.
  • The nurses concerned have disappeared from the scene. Dr Moxley himself has been overwhelmed by a few doctors to prevent him from further attacking me.
  • “Ugh.” This sound escaped from their mouth momentarily as every one viewed their phones others shared among themselves.
  • “I promise you will surely regret this, No one ever does this to me and go scot free!” He confessed.
  • I dropped the tag and ID cards. A good riddance.
  • “Guys see you soon.” I quickly found my way out of their midst before I would be held down by Dr Moxley’s bodyguards. I knew I had done what fate sent me. It's left for whoever wants to take it up to do the rest.
  • I quickly reached for my phone again. Dialed my mum’s number. My feelings tell me it is not looking good back home.
  • I called my mum’s phone. Before the phone could ring for long,
  • “Amara! Where are you, your brother is in trouble…” Mother cried out, her quivering sent a signal that all was not well from her end. Never have I seen my mother in such a situation since I was born.
  • Before I could say a word, her voice was substituted with a thick voice.
  • “I am only giving you a few hours from now, produce the money your brother owes or else your brother and mother die …”
  • His voice thick and sonorous laced with fear, “ And if you want to act smart by bringing in the police. My dear, you still know the repercussions.”
  • “Please don't hurt my mum, How much is Mateo owing …” I couldn't finish my statement before the line was cut off.
  • My phone instantly vibrates In my pocket. I reached for my phone to check the message. It reads:
  • Bring the eighty thousand dollars, this should be in five hundred pieces in one hundred dollar notes, the rest in fifty dollars notes.
  • Eighty thousand dollars?
  • I steered at my phone twice.
  • “Ahh…Ahh…” I boasted into uncontrollable laughter of despair as a drop of tears began to drop from my eyes at the same time.
  • I couldn't cry to it fullest nor could I encourage myself with some insane laughter.
  • Sweat broke from my head. How it found its way to my pants in a fraction of seconds and how I was completely wet, was a question I could not explain. The world spurned around me. My throat dried completely.
  • How could Mateo be in this magnitude of trouble? I have severally warned him to stay out of trouble. Pending the time I would get my balance and bring him to the city.I have always loved him and as a big sister I had to look after him. Several times he would ask me for money and I would have to squeeze myself to give him but the shocking report reaching me recently shows that had gotten into gambling.
  • I mounted my bike and headed home. I hurriedly picked anything I could lay my hands on and including my savings, maybe I can use it as a ransom. I took my lovely cat to my next door neighbor for proper care. Heaven knows when I am going to be back.
  • Few hours later.
  • The buzzing sound and colorful light from k-pub will make someone thrilled. The strobe light had a perfect combination to the scene as the DJ didn't fail doing his things with the turntable.
  • But this never got to me, all I cared about was Mateo and my mother.
  • I was questioned by a bouncer dressed in a black jacket and covered with tinted glass. He immediately put a call and directed me to wait at the bar stand for the next call of action. I waited for a few minutes before the bouncer directed me through a door which linked to the staircase and I found myself in a floor made of different ladies in form stripers and chairs were set where different guys with groups sat.
  • I knew Boss Dmitri even in the darkest of night. Days he would come to our house back then, pay a visit, and drop gifts for us. My father was one of his most trusted followers. My father had served him for more than twenty-five years. I don't know what had happened between the two, not long after I left my hometown to study and settle down.
  • Everyone back then In my hometown used to pray that we should be the last person found in his black books because he was a viper. I mean a demon that does not knock before entering a room.
  • “Are you with my money?” A voice from my back jolted me into reality. I quickly realized it was the viper himself. Fearless one himself. Boss Dmitri.
  • I stuttered, “ yes, but I can…”
  • “You can explain what…” He moved closer to me with his magic stick. Boss Dmitri is that kind of person talkless but puts up action to drive home his points. His voice may be the quietest in the room but bleeds more than a two edged sword.
  • “Where is my family first? How am I to know you if you have not eliminated them?” I tried to put up courage. My little strategy to buy myself some times.
  • “So are you the one in charge now? He bent low to me, our head at par with each other.
  • “No… sir.” I stuttered, careful with words so as not to make things more messy.
  • “I am asking to be sure my family is ok.” I replied with anxiety.
  • Ok, I will do your bidding.” He submitted with a smile as he instructed one of his bodyguards to go bring Mateo and my mother.
  • “I see that you are not with any bag, which shows that you are not with my money.”
  • “I can explain.”
  • “Explain what?” He fired back with intense fury.
  • “Are you playing games with me?”
  • Boss Dmitri turned to one of his aides, “Go tell them not to bring the packages here again.”
  • I knelt down, holding on to his feet for mercy.
  • “Please don't, boss Dmitri,” I uttered as tears began to stroll down my face, “just give me a week I promise to produce the….”
  • “A week? so you are not here with my money.”
  • “No, I only brought this,” I dipped my hands into my pocket and brought out the money in a purse.
  • “How much is here?” He questioned.
  • “T..this ten grand.” I stammered trying to force words from my mouth.
  • “So! you can only afford ten grand out of eighty grand your damn brother is owing?” Boss Dmitri uttered with fury. “Then, you must be joking.”
  • “Please just a week, I have someone that I want to collect money from…” I had come with a lie to buy sometime, may he will relinquish my family to me.
  • “When last did you hear from your father?” he asked
  • “It's been a while.”
  • “Your father escaped with my hard earned money. I promise you, When I am done with your brother. He would be the next on my list. Castellanos family are ingrates and snitches. I am very sure you know where he kept my money…”
  • “I have no knowledge of what you are talking about.” I quickly interrupted.
  • He instructed one of his aides to collect and count the money, which the aide signaled back to him as that the money was complete.
  • At this time he had instructed everyone to leave the room for us. Boss Dmitri owns this place. Who dares not to obey when he commands.
  • “For wasting my time, here is punishment. Every one of my bouncers here will sleep with you while I sit here watching and enjoying the show, before you leave this place to look for the rest of my money.”
  • “What!”
