Chapter 3 The man called doom!

  • As soon as Melanie got to the hospital, she rushed to Doctor Simeon's office.
  • ''Get a date for the surgery, doctor!'' Melanie screamed as she entered, panting heavily.
  • ''Oops!'' Melanie widened her eyes as she saw some people in the office with him.
  • ''I'm sorry, I'm sorry,'' She bowed, embarrassed, and left the office.
  • Melanie waited impatiently for Doctor Simeon outside his office. A few minutes later, his visitors came out and Doctor Simeon followed almost immediately.
  • ''I've got the money, Doctor!'' Melanie screamed.
  • ''Miss Melanie, it is past twelve in the morning, the patients are still sleeping, can you bring down your voice please?''
  • ''I'm sorry doctor, I'm just too excited. I got the money already!'' Melanie whisper-shouted, unable to control her happiness.
  • ''You got everything?'' Doctor Simeon asked.
  • ''Yes!'' Melanie grinned.
  • ''But...we spoke barely two hours ago and you said you had no money...'' Doctor Simeon said giving her a questioning look.
  • ''Oh, that? I called a distant relative of mine and he...''
  • ''He gave you the money right away?'' Doctor Simeon asked
  • ''Yes.'' Melanie blurted.
  • ''Okay... I'll discuss this with other surgeons and your mother will get her surgery,'' Doctor Simeon said, and Melanie nodded her head.
  • ''Em...Doctor. Can you not tell my mum a distant relative gave me the money?'' Melanie asked playing with the tip of her hair nervously.
  • ''Huh? Why?" Doctor Simeon Queried.
  • ''Actually, my mum is not on a good term with him," Melanie said.
  • ''Oh...okay. Follow me to where you will pay the money,'' Doctor Simeon said.
  • ''Thank you,'' Melanie said and watched the Doctor leave.
  • ''So nosy!'' She rolled her eyes and ran after him.
  • *
  • Her mother's surgery was scheduled for the next day and Melanie was filled with so much joy.
  • ''All you have to do now is hang in there,'' Melanie smiled at her mother.
  • Melanie's mother only stared at her daughter and said nothing.
  • ''Are you mad at me, Mother?'' Melanie asked her mother.
  • ''Mother, don't be mad. Moth...'' Melanie widened her eyes as her mother suddenly struggled to breathe.
  • ''Mother! Doctor!!'' Melanie screamed.
  • Forgetting that there was a bell to press in the ward, Melanie rushed outside to call the Doctor.
  • Doctor Simeon was also on his way to the ward and he met Melanie.
  • ''Save my mother, Doctor! Please!'' Melanie cried.
  • Doctor Simeon rushed inside the ward with his nurses who had Melanie stay outside.
  • A few minutes later, Doctor Simeon came out with his nurses who ran past him.
  • ''We need to carry out the surgery, now. Like now.'' Doctor Simeon said to Melanie.
  • ''She will be fine, right? Doctor, please say yes!!' Melanie cried.
  • ''Miss Melanie, We'll do our best,'' Doctor Simeon said.
  • The nurses rushed past them again with a stretcher and Melanie followed them inside.
  • An oxygen bag was on her mother's nose while a nurse kept pressing it as if giving her mother air.
  • ''Mother...'' Melanie's legs failed her and was about to fall when Doctor Simeon caught her in his arms.
  • Melanie cried and watched as her mother was carried on the stretcher.
  • Melanie made way as the nurses wheeled her mother out of the ward.
  • ''We'll start the surgery, Miss Melanie,'' Doctor Simeon patted her and walked away.
  • The only thing she could do now is pray that the surgery is a success.
  • *
  • Melanie has been sitting in front of the ICU for almost three hours and the Doctors are not coming out.
  • Her life will get twisted if anything happens to her mother.
  • A few minutes later, the ICU light went off which indicated that the surgery was over.
  • Melanie stood up and waited for the doctor to come out.
  • Two doctors came out before Doctor Simeon came out.
  • ''How was it, Doctor?'' Melanie asked, with hope in her eyes.
  • ''The surgery went well, Miss Melanie but she needs to wake up first before the surgery becomes a success,'' Doctor Simeon explained.
  • ''Will she be fine?'' Melanie asked.
  • ''Let's hope so. You know she had emergency surgery. But don't worry, she will be fine. She will be moved to a different ward, you can sit there quietly with her.'' Doctor Simeon said and left the young lady standing.
  • ''Hmmm,'' Melanie sighed deeply.
  • Immediately she saw her mother being wheeled out of the ICU, Melanie followed them swiftly.
  • **
  • Melanie's head was on the bed beside her mother and her mother's hand in hers. It has been two days since her mother's surgery and her mother was still not out of the coma.
  • Melanie raised her head when she felt her mother's hand moving in hers.
  • ''Mother!'' Melanie cried and hugged her mother tightly.
  • ''You're choking me, Mel,'' her mother said.
  • ''I've missed you so much, mum. I'm glad you came back for me,'' Melanie said and hugged her mum again.
  • ''I'll get the doctor, I'm coming mum,'' Melanie said walking away.
  • ''Hey,'' Her mother called her and pointed to the bell behind her.
  • ''Oh! I've forgotten,'' Melanie laughed, and her mother joined her.
  • Doctor Simeon was very glad to see his patient out of the coma. He grinned when he saw that her vitals were normal.
  • ''Welcome back, Mrs. Tatum," Doctor Simeon said, and Mrs. Melanie smiled.
  • After the doctor left, Melanie told her mother to sleep while she went home to prepare porridge for her mother.
  • Melanie arrived at the hospital an hour later and fed her mother the porridge.
  • ''Melanie,'' Her mother called out after she finished eating.
  • ''Yes, mother?''
  • ''I've been meaning to ask you, how did you get the money for my surgery?'' Melanie's mother, Melinda asked.
  • Oh, Busted!
  • She completely forgot to cook up a lie.
  • "Oh... That?'' Melanie chuckled.
  • Melinda knew her daughter was about to come up with a lie.
  • ''Don't you dare lie to me!'' Her mother snapped.
  • ''Oh, mother,'' Melanie twitched her mouth.
  • ''I saw a wallet on my way home and it was filled with money,'' Melanie stated.
  • ''Don't tell me you stole it!'' Melinda raised her brow.
  • ''Stole? Oh please! I checked the details of the owner in the wallet and I called him to come to get it. He appreciated and asked why I didn't take the money instead, but I told him I wasn't brought up that way. He smiled and gave me a lot of dollars,'' Melanie smiled.
  • ''Really? A man you barely know handed you thousand of dollars?''
  • ''Exactly. As if he knew I needed the money,'' Melanie smiled.
  • ''Melanie...I hope you're telling me the truth,'' Her mother worried.
  • ''You worry too much, mum. Focus on recovering mother!'' Melanie said to her mother.
  • Standing at his balcony, he couldn't believe a woman could do that to him.
  • Didn't she know who he was?
  • Even if she didn't know he was a thug boss, didn't she know the position he held in the whole of Los Angeles?
  • That lady requested for Doom herself.
  • And the doom was called 'Flynn Harlan'
  • Flynn dipped his hand in his pocket and brought out a lighter and cigarettes.
  • He was about to light it when he heard a light knock on his door.
  • He cursed under his breath and left the balcony.
  • The door opened and his trusted man, Devon entered.
  • ''I got the CCTV footage you requested for.''
  • Devon dropped the flash drive on the shelf and walked out of the room.
  • Flynn grabbed the flash drive and smiled devilishly at it.
  • ''You're screawed''
