  • The coldness in the archive room bit through the thin fabric of my shirt, sending goosebumps rippling across my arms. The flickering fluorescent lights overhead buzzed faintly, threatening to give out at any moment, their erratic glow casting shadows on the walls lined with dusty filing cabinets. The smell of mildew and stale paper filled the air.
  • I wasn’t supposed to be here tonight. My rational mind screamed at me to leave the past buried where it belonged. But I couldn’t, something about the weight of the unanswered questions pressed too heavily on me. Alessia’s father’s death had been a wound that refused to scab over, an open sore I needed to understand before it festered any further.
