• The Council of Elders, consisting of fifteen high-ranking Lycans, had gathered in the castle’s grand hall—cold and grim, much like the ones seated around the oval table. Damien stood by the window, his back to them, gazing at the distant mountains. He despised these meetings. Too many words and too little honor.
• “My King,” Lucian, Diane’s father, began in an oily voice, “this morning’s incident with the human girl raises questions. She got too close to you, too quickly.”
• “Incident?” Damien didn’t turn around. “You call treating a wounded warrior an incident?”
