Chapter 29 Sacred Vows

  • Seventeen hours after the battle, the forest around Dellwyn was silent, the only sound being the occasional rustle of leaves and the distant cries of crows circling over the ruined village. Lucas sat on the cold forest floor, knees drawn to his chest, staring blankly at the ground. The devastation of the village still burned in his mind. The destruction, the smoke, and most painfully the memory of Mirna lying lifeless. His fists clenched tight, dirt digging into his palms as the weight of his grief threatened to crush him.

  • Finally, after a long silence, Lucas lifted his head. His eyes, usually bright with the magic of the spirit realm, were heavy with pain. “I… I can’t go any further,” he said, his voice rough, strained with emotion. “Not until Mirna has a proper resting place. I can’t leave her like this.”
