Chapter 2 Rude
- Ava’s pov
- The people around us held their breath.
- For thirty seconds we just stared at each other. Then he finally cleared his throat and spoke, and the sound of his voice almost made me pause.
- God. Why did it have to be so smooth? Which smooth? I scolded myself inwardly.
- “Hi, miss. Please, can you move out of my way?”
- He said it politely, gesturing with his hands for me to step aside. I could feel his friends watching me from behind, waiting to see what I’d do.
- “Your way?” I scoffed. You should be the one to move,” I said, keeping my voice steady. “I was already walking on this side. If anyone needs to move, it’s you.”
- Before he could reply, I stepped forward and brushed past him, letting my shoulder bump lightly against his.
- His eyes widened in shock.
- Gasps and murmurs broke out behind me. I could hear the students whispering loudly, but I didn’t care. I just kept walking. Esmery chased after me, scolding me the entire way, but I ignored her completely.
- ---
- The next morning, the moment I stepped into the school compound, I felt the stares of the students staring at me.
- Oh God. This was exactly what I’d been trying to avoid since I got here.
- “The poor girl is here.”
- “I bet she’s just desperate for Brandon’s attention.”
- “She acts so proud for someone who’s a nobody.”
- “She needs to leave. She thinks she’s so special.”
- “Yes, I am special, bitches,” I muttered under my breath.
- Yesterday's little encounter in the hallway had apparently become today's hottest gossip.A few students whispered to one another while others glared at me angrily. But I ignored every single one of them.
- I made my way to an empty seat near the window and quietly unpacked my books. The classroom was still noisy, giving me a few minutes to go over my notes before the professor arrived.
- Just as I opened my notebook, the chair beside me scraped against the floor.
- I paused for a second before lifting my eyes.
- Brandon.
- He settled into the seat as though it belonged to him, resting one arm on the desk before turning slightly in my direction.
- For a brief moment, neither of us spoke.
- His hazel blue eyes studied my face carefully, almost as if he was making sure he hadn't mistaken me for someone else. Then the corner of his lips lifted.
- "You're the girl from yesterday, aren't you?" He asked casually. "The one who pushed me out of the way.
- I lowered my eyes back to my notebook and turned a page without answering.
- The silence stretched between us.
- Brandon waited, probably expecting me to say something but I didn't.
- He let out a small breath through his nose before trying again.
- "So... i believe you owe me an apology for pushing me out of my way yesterday he said
- I raised up my head and looked at him briefly, He’s crazy for thinking I will apologize to him.
- I picked up my pen and started writing on my book ignoring his whole existence. He’s bad news.
- Other student are already glaring at me just because he’s sitting close to me
- Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed him staring at me curiously, probably wondering why one girl refused to acknowledge his existence.
- He remained beside me, saying nothing this time. Every now and then, I could feel his eyes drift in my direction before looking away again.
- Thankfully, the classroom door opened.
- "Good morning, class," the professor said as he walked in carrying a stack of files.
- The chatter immediately died down.
- I released a breath I hadn't realized I was holding and focused on the lesson.
- Brandon POV
- I walked into the cafeteria with my friends behind me. The place was packed, Loud voices, trays slamming and the usual mess.
- My eyes scanned the room looking for where we can sit when I saw her.
- She was sitting by the window with another girl. Esmery, our team cheerleader.
- She had her brown long hair down.wearing Baggy sweater and big trouser. She wasn’t looking at her friend or talking,Just eating fries like the world didn’t exist.
- Something about her pulled me in.
- Go find somewhere to sit guys, I will be sitting with the girls over there," I told the guys, nodding toward their table.
- "Why?" Tyler asked.
- "Just go,I’ll be back" I said immediately leaving the guys shocked.
- I walked over to their table.
- Esmery looked up first. "Hey," she said, smiling.
- I nodded at her then looked at the other girl. "Hey," I said.
- She didn’t answer. Didn’t even look up.
- I pulled out a chair and sat. "I didn’t get your name in class the other time," I said.
- Still Nothing.
- Esmery quickly jumped in. "Oh, she’s Ava. A transferred student.
- I smiled a little. "Ava. Cool.
- “So why are you quiet” I asked again wondering why she’s ignoring me.
- Still nothing. She just kept eating.
- Esmery kicked her under the table. "Ava?"
- She finally looked up. Her eyes were cold. "Why are you talking to me?"
- "I’m just trying to have a conversation," I said. "Is that a problem?"
- "Yes," she said. "It is. I don’t know you."
- "I’m just being friendly—"
- "I don’t care," she cut in. "Please stay away from me.
- She grabbed her tray, stood up, and walked out angrily.
- Esmery looked at me and mumbled "sorry about that captained” before running after her.
- I sat there for a second thinking about what just happened.
- A minute later the Tyler came over laughing.
- "Bro that was rude, she’s just a commoner and she’s talking to you that way. That’s crazy."
- I didn’t laugh or respond. I just sat there staring at the empty chair.
- Why wasn’t she attracted to me?
- I’d never had a girl look at me like I was trash and walked out on me.
- And I couldn’t stop wondering why.
